I found out that I was accepted to Indiana University on friday. When I visited the school I liked it a lot but am a little nervous about the distance (I live in Virginia). I am contemplating applying in state early decision to Virginia Tech because I stand the best chance by doing so. Can any current students tell me a little more about Indiana and why I should attend here so as to help me make my decision a little easier? Thanks.

What do you plan to major in? what made you decide to apply to IU? We could help you more if we know what you want in a college.

My son is a music performance major at IU and loves the music school. He does not love everything about IU overall, but is very glad he chose to go there, because he is finding what he needs in his major.

I plan on majoring in finance if I get accepted into the business school. If not I plan on majoring in history. I applied to the school because I thought it was a beautiful school within a reasonable distance of a city. I like the size of the school and I know some people that went there and liked it. How does the academic reputation of schools besides business compare to other schools? Attending an in state school such as virginia tech is much cheaper but I think that the experience of leaving the state could be very meaningful.

Like all the Big Ten Schools, they get so much money from their athletics to fuel their education. I don't quite know how all the departments of the school are viewed as, but I know it is a very big and respected university. I live in Illinois and I plan on going out of state also (Either Purdue or IU, whichever I get accepted), because like you said....it will be a great expierence and both colleges are respected....Especially IU's business and music schools.

On another thread people listed schools at IU that were nationally recognized, and there were several. It is a good school with a lot to offer. And I do understand wanting to go to college in another part of the country from where you grew up. I did the same myself many long years ago, and I think it was a valuable experience. Of course, the cost may be a deciding factor, too, as IU does not meet need.

IU definitely has a beautiful campus. That is a plus. Beyond that, it depends whether you can put up with the party atmosphere and if you like a big school, since it is definitely big. (But you say you like big schools, so that is good.)

thanks for all the advice. I think it will probably come down to how much scholarship money I receive and if I get into the business school.
