NEED good advice

<p>Hey guys,</p>

<p>this is my first post ever...but i have still been following some discussions....and you guys really know wut u are talking about....</p>

<p>I REALLY want to get into Yale...(like a lot of you) and i was wondering what I can (before Feb.) do to better my chances </p>

<p>I am an asian male and go to a very competitive highschool in Florida</p>

<p>Ranks: school does not rank but top 5% of 134
Scores: </p>

<p>SAT 1: superscore 770 R 720 M 720 W 11 essay Com: 2210
SAT 2: Biology M 740 Math II-C 710 US His 660
ACT: Com: 33 E34 M35 R30 S31 W34</p>

<p>I have pretty good extracurriulars...and awards....that's my main hook...and i am really into theatre...and plan to major in sociology....</p>

<p>I was deferred and kinda depressed but I was wondering if you guys could give ure input in regards to the scores....should I retake the ACT...SAT 1...SAT 2s??</p>

<p>scores are fine to me, i've seen many get in with less. IMO maybe you wanna retake USH and maybe maybe Math (being that a lot of asians have higher scores, but again you said you wanna major in sociology so i dunno), but i think you have good shot, especially if your ecs and awards are really good like you said.</p>

<p>I disagree with akybaky, I don't think raising any of your scores would make a big of enough difference to get you in - your scores seem to be really excellent. What got you deferred was probably your other stuff (extracurriculars, awards, essays)..can you elaborate on them?</p>

<p>ECs:
Student Government (11th Treasurer 12th VP)
--As Treasurer I was chariman of the Students Helping Students Scholoarship Fund which raised money for underprivaledged students to come to Berkeley so when students apply and recieve financial aid to my school they are recieving some from this fund...we raised 8,000 dollars and sent numerous kids to this private school....within the community its pretty prestigious and comended</p>

<p>Writing Center (12th Director of Academy Prep Tutoring)
--A tutoria center for students papers and as director of that divison i tutured kids monthly at the local underprivaledged school academy prep..having kids who were amazed they we were kind enough to give our time and efforts to them (they were really nice kids hahaa)</p>

<p>Latin Club (VP 11th P 12th) [Numerous National Awards], Math Club [regional awards, placed nationally (3rd place) in the Math Facts Competition], Science Olympiad (regionally successful), Debate [distinctions of merit and honor], Science and Math and Latin tutor within school....</p>

<p>Theatre: I am REALLY into theatre in my school....I have had the lead roles in all of my schools musicals and straight play productions...and i recieved a regional thespian ALL-STAR CAST award for my portrayal of a character</p>

<p>Random Awards: Math, Science, History, Latin, Thespian, Debate Honor Socieities, Cum Laude, NHS, UPENN book award, Rensealer Polytechnic award in excellence in math and science, numerous excellent community service award, National Merit Comended, AP Scholar with Honor</p>

<p>Out of School:</p>

<p>Moffit SPARKS program for Cancer Research:
Was the first student in highschool selected to this program (most students are undergrads from very selective insitutions)...performed cancer research in the basic research divison and was commended with excellence in community service award)</p>

<p>MOSI KIC Advisory Board:
Was part of a board of 15 kids who managed the building of a 10,000 square foot Museum for science for kids....largest kids science center in the country...recognized nationally </p>

<p>Youth Asia Organization:
Traveled to India and visited local school that were impoverished and under-funded and came to the US and raised 5,000 dollars in grant money to benefit their facilitis....</p>
