Hi, I'm struggling with choosing colleges among these..

I'm from South korea and i currently go to highschool in nebraska.

My cumulative GPA is 3.6, and my SAT score on October was 1850(i took on november too and i 'm pretty sure its over 1900)

my parents would like to get some financial aid and they also want me to go to cheaper

schools.

so... they sent me this list of colleges and told me to choose among them.

I wanna major in business. If u have any information about those

colleges that i list, would u please share ur knowledge?

and if u were to choose 6 among those, where would u apply?

Are you an international applicant, or do you have your green card?

How much can your family pay?

I’m an international student no green card either.

and my family can pay 30K + @(5k?) for tuition + room&boarding

University of Wisconsin- Madison
Ohio State University
North Carolina State University
University of Iowa
Suny Geneseo
Suny Purchase/University of Nebraska

If you are classified as a Nebraska resident, I would strongly favor the University of Nebraska, or any other in-state public schools, over out-of-state or private schools. The tuition costs of these schools would be the lowest. On the other hand, you may want to apply to a few private or out-of-state schools as a stretch, just in case they offer you admission plus scholarships that bring the cost down comparable with the University of Nebraska.

Edit: Okay, so you’re an international student. I would still apply to Nebraska, plus a few private schools that are sure bets and have good financial aid programs. Make sure that whatever scholarship program you agree to is renewable. You don’t want to finish your freshmen year and suddenly the cost goes to full price.

Would u be more specific about the scholarship program ?

and which 6 colleges among those would u recommend?

Wisconsin and Ohio State

^^ Wisky & TOSU!! :)

Go Bucks! lol

The college-matching search engines do not allow you to sort by total Cost of Attendance (COA) which includes tuition, fees, books, materials, transportation, etc. However, you can find that on each institution’s website. With a budget of USD 30 to 35k, you need to be looking at places where the tuition and fees come to no more than 20k when you run the search engines. You also need to expect that costs will rise by 5% to 7% each year. This year’s 30k university could easily be 35k in four years.

What we think of these universities doesn’t matter. What matters is what your potential employer back in Korea will think. Can anyone there give you some feedback on that issue? You need to be prepared to return to your home country after college graduation.

Depending on your parent’s income, I would recommend Alice Lloyd and Berea.
I am from Louisville, Ky, and both these schools are in Kentucky, but they’re amazing colleges.
Out of the two of these, I think Berea would be the best.
It is an amazing liberal arts college, ranked by Forbes and The Princeton Review. My brother-in-law attended Alice Lloyd, and he liked it, but it is VERY small.
I will say this- Berea and Alice Lloyd are more practical, because some of the colleges on your list are expensive. For example, Ohio State.
Berea is FREE if you get in. No tuition for 4 years. Can’t really beat it. At the same time, due to the small population, estimating roughly 1500 students, you will not have the social life that you would have at some of the other colleges. In my opinion, it is worth the sacrifice, but if you want to party and have a big social life, you might want to look elsewhere.

Berea College and College of the Ozarks are small Christian liberal arts schools founded specifically for low-income, local students (from Appalachia, in the case of Berea College, from the Ozarks for College of the Ozarks). Since you have a 30-35K budget, and are not from either of these regions, you could not qualify for admission to these colleges.

I suggest you study the websites of the colleges that interest you (check out requirements for their business colleges, etc.) and email the admissions/financial aid offices regarding costs/scholarship opportunities for international students. Many colleges will give merit scholarships based on GPA and test scores–look for scholarship calculators on websites.
