I am asking this for my daughter. Last year she took AP EURO, AP English Language, and AP Biology. This year she signed up for AP Calculus AB, AP English Literature, and AP Physics C. She wants to drop the AP Physics C, and pick up AP Art HIstory. IS this a bad idea? SHe will only have 3 years of science then. ( the only other choice at her school for science is AP Chemistry or marine biology. ( There is no regular Phyics or CHemistry). SHe doesn't really like science. SHe wants to apply to Wake, Vanderbilt, Penn, and Emory. She needs to drop and add by tomorrow!)

Well 4 years of science is usually something that's good to have. But I guess it really depends on what her desired major is. Anything realted to math, science, or engineering she needs 4 years of science. If she wants to do more humanities I guess ap art history could be acceptable.

She will probably major in history. I am just worried that only 3 years of science will hurt her chances at the more competive colleges. What do you think? Anybody?

I would go with 4 years of science. It may not be NECESSARY, but it is good and most likely preferred. It is really best to check with schools. Also, you can get Physics C credit at way more schools than you can get Art History credit.

Physics C is probably not worht it for a history major and it'll probably only cause your daughter to be unhappy.

That material is exceptionally difficult and not recommended for people who don't want to do either science, engineering or pre-med.

I mean who really wants to figure out how to find out the moment of inertia of anything or do the correct integration over the Amperian loop.

Trust me, this is from a non technical major who regretted signing up for AP Physics C. If you really need a 4th year of science, take AP Chem instead, that is defnitely easier.

Thanks everyone. Golden Bear, I am with you. That is what I told her to do.

She should do what makes her happy. Who needs a year of being miserable?
