Need help deciding >.<

I've been accepted to a few unis, but I'm only seriously considering 3 of them: USC, WUSTL, and UNC at Chapel Hill.

For WUSTL, I applied for English (writing) as a major, because they did not have a major specifically for Communications. When I e-mailed the school, the response I got was that many students wanting to go into communications/journalism field choose English as a major. However, I'm not sure if this would help me in a future career as it seems like such a vague major.

I want to study communications, which I know both UNC and USC are strong in. Can you guys please tell me what you think of their prestige (of all 3 schools as a whole and of the departments) and also whether it is worth it to spend $50000+ a year on a private uni? I am an international student from Hong Kong.

I will also post this on the threads of the other schools. Any help is much appreciated!

Prestige doesn't matter, its the quality of the program!

If you are interested in journalism or communications, I wouldn't spend $50K a year to attend a school that doesn't at least have good connections to the industry. It's not that English is such a bad major for journalists; my husband is asked to write articles related to the oil and gas industry all the time and he is the founder of a private equity e&p with a degree is in petroleum engineering and no journalism/communications training. The question is... can WUSTL provide you the network to advance your career...and if not, which school CAN provide this advantage.

UNC has an outstanding English dept--always has had-- as well as a top journalism school. I vote for UNC-CH! Hope that helps. :)
