USC Marshall vs Georgetown McDonough vs NYU Stern

Hi, I'm a recent international who just received very exciting letters from USC, Georgetown, and NYU. Since I'm graduating from a US high school, I'm really interested in which college would be a good fit for me. Money and location would not be huge problems for me. The so called "college experience" and future earning potential would be more of my focus.

I'll be majoring in finance, and I know that according to the rankings, I should head off to the big apple. But one thing that stifles me is that the networking and internship opportunities would be available for only the domestic US kids. This is the biggest reason that I'm weary of Stern other than the 'curve' and the lack of school spirit in NYU.

USC, with all its school spirit and Trojan family thing does not sound bad at all. I especially like the atmosphere of SoCal. I heard they also encourage double majoring, and I might double finance up with accounting in case if I think IB is not for me. The 5 year accounting track that gets you the masters doesn't sound half as bad.

As for Georgetown, its a great mix between NYU and USC. McDonough is a very good business school, and although grossly under-ranked, places well on the street. I'm just a little worried if McDonough's accounting degree might place well with the big four.

I don't know. So guys, any opinions?

PS: BTW I wonder if US companies are willing to hire some of us international kids and give us H1B visas or if they would prefer to relocate us to their international locations?

Are you planning to go to grad school?

As a fellow undergrad considering USC I do know that the Big Four often visit and provide internships at Marshall. In fact, many of those aforementioned internships end up as a job offer come senior year. (I have attended multiple Marshall tours and they have ALWAYS stressed their relationships with KPMG, PWC etc.) Congrats on being accepted to such fantastic schools and good luck making your decision!

Check out this post as well…sounds like a student last year had a very similar decision to yours:

Thanks for the link! I know that usually all the internships would land you jobs whether its the east coast or west coast, but what I am doubtful is that, in this economy, I wonder if these companies would be able to sponsor me on an H1B visa or post me in Singapore or Dubai - ever since that TARP thing Obama signed. I would not rule out living in the US as an option, only if the immigration system lets me. I might have to call up all the schools and ask.

I know that for finance Stern beats the crap out of all the other schools. But will I be willing to sacrifice the prospects of a better undergraduate experience in USC and GTown, for the seriousness and cutthroat competition of the city and for the sake of ‘potentially’ better earnings? That I’m hesitant. Will it be worth it - that I have to ask myself.

Appreciate your responses, any other opinions?
