Hi all,
I’m a current junior and I am trying to find some schools to visit over the summer.
PROFILE:
White male
Live in NJ
3.73/4.0 GPA
40/350 rank (11%) at competitive public school.
ACT: 32
Amazing letters of recommendation (From both business teachers. Have taken multiple classes with both.)
Multiple leadership positions in selective business academy within the school.
Varsity Tennis. One of the best teams in the state and personally ranked high in the state.
Varsity Chess.
National Honor Society member
Work 20+ hours at sub shop during the school year.
Founder/Captain of school’s first E-sports team and we are currently ranked top 5 in the country for high schools. (Devoted thousands of hours towards this. Awkward to talk about, but I am very proud of it)
Anyways, I am looking for a school that has a very solid accounting program (looking to be recruited by Big 4 firms), and would like the school to be in a location where there is nice weather (looking in the south). Price not so much an issue, but I would love a school that is not full private school price if you know what I mean.
I have already visited Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh.
Maybe someone could give me a few schools to look at that I would be able to get into? Thanks!
For matches and safeties in NJ, here’s a full list of places that have accounting: (Obtained from this link: http://www.accountingcoach.com/careers/colleges-universities-accounting-degrees)

Centenary College
Fairleigh Dickinson University
Georgian Court University
Kean University
Monmouth University
Montclair State University
New Jersey City University

All of the places look like they have solid, accredited programs that will prepare you to become a CPA. Out of all of the programs, Monmouth specifically says their program can prepare you for the Big 4 (http://www.monmouth.edu/business-school/accounting.aspx). Quite a few of the schools–you would have to check the websites which can be accessed by the Accounting Coach link I gave you–even have 5 year programs where you can earn your BS and a certificate.
I know you said you wanted to look in the south but since money is partially a minor issue, I do urge you to consider colleges in NJ.
Yes, I have only consider TCNJ. Others are completely out of the question. TCNJ was way too close for me, despite it having some of the things that I want. Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that money was even an issue. My parents can pay for any school, I just thought that paying less would be nice for them since we’re not super wealthy, but we do very well. I appreciate your list, but I have also put Clemson near the top of my list as a safety and UNC/UVA as “glitch in the computer” reaches. I really don’t want to be in NJ or in the North unless I’m going to a god-tier school, which I am not.
I’d probably say University of Texas Austin is your best bet: top tier accounting program and texas weather. Should not be a problem breaking into big4 from there.
I would apply to BC, Richmond, Villanova, Elon, Loyola Maryland and Wake Forest. Three warm ones.
You have good stats and will do well.
TCNJ as a safety.
I can totally see myself at UT! Only problem is getting in, I’m not sure I can make the cut there, haven’t looked too much into it, but it looks pretty damn hard OOS into the business school.

University of Alabama…highly ranked for Accounting.
Public Accounting Report (PAR) ranks Alabama 8th in the nation.
Big 4 recruiting. In the South. And with your stats, free tuition.

Gorgeous campus, students from all 50 states.
UT and UVA are very difficult OOS. Apply but get some safeties!
Yes, me and my dad both love Alabama. It looks awesome and has a ton of value. However, my mom has some issues with it that need to be discussed.
@mmead01 You are in the 98th percentile. Why are you not more confident? Maybe the top 5 business schools will be tough but you will have good success with the rest.
^^^
Probably because the family would be full pay and Accounting firms don’t care about top 5 b-schools.

Can you pm me her issues? Likely they are based on old stereotypes or misunderstandings.
@mom2collegekids You mean like My Cousin Vinny?
