Need help formulating a realistic college list

Hi all. I am a Virginia resident with a 3.45 UW GPA and a 4.005 W GPA with an SAT score of 1500. I was hoping based on these stats the community could give me a list of good schools that I would be in range for (Maybe T50?). Money is not an issue so cost isn’t a major factor. I would like to major in business (Finance/Management mostly).

Currently, I am looking at:
Auburn
UIUC
Penn State
Ohio State
Indiana
Virginia Tech
UMD
Purdue
UPitt

Look into the University of Richmond if you haven’t done so already.

For business, consider–in addition to Indiana University & your other listed schools–SMU in Dallas, Texas, Wake Forest University (WFU), & the Univ. of Richmond.

Wisconsin ?

If willing to apply ED, then you can apply to any reach school that is of interest to you as cost is not a concern.

Consider EA to Michigan-Ross if interested.

Cost should always be at least a little bit of a concern even if you can cash pay the full expense. Let’s say you choose a school that saves your folks $100k. If they agree to gift you half of it for saving them that much money, and you invest it at historical US market returns, it will turn into over $750,000 inflation adjusted by the time you’re in your 60s. This is not to say the cheapest school. It’s just to get you thinking about the opportunity costs of money. You’ll learn a lot more about that in B-School. Good luck!

I do not think my GPA is high enough for Michigan, SMU, or Wisconsin
@Publisher

I think you are borderline and could be admitted to Wisconsin, especially with your SAT score. Michigan is maybe 50/50, but less for Ross.

What about the Honors College at Penn State? ASU Barrett Honors?

Miami of Ohio would likely give you 1/2 to full ride for your SAT.

Minnesota Carlson for undergraduate business.

I would also think you could be borderline at UVA as an in stater, although GPA could be a bit low.

Arizona State and Texas A&M may fit your indicated preferences.

For a lot of the public OOS B-Schools it is going to be hard to tell where you stand. You have to account for both being OOS and the B-School is normally higher stats than the overall university. UIUC publishes stats by college. You are over the 75% for SAT but under the 25% for GPA. That plus being OOS can make it a reach to big reach.

Thank you for all your comments! If you guys could chance me for the schools I listed at the top of the thread that would be great. Obviously there is no need for you to chance me for all 10, but if you know enough about one of those colleges to chance me would be really helpful. Thanks everyone!

With a 1500 SAT you think you don’t have a shot at SMU?? I respectfully disagree  And I think your GPA is not bad either. Do you have access to Naviance? Can you compare your stats with kids from your school who’ve applied to SMU (and the other schools)? That will tell you better information than strangers on a message board who don’t know your high school.

Not like the schools you listed but you might consider Babson. Nice school.

I would add the following to your list:

William & Mary
Florida
Georgia
Wisconsin

I second Babson. Excellent business school.

@sbdad12 Do you think I have a chance at Penn State Honors College? I heard it was hard to get into.

@Klm882, I think you may be borderline. Your SAT score is very good, but GPA is a bit low for Schreyer from what I have seen. If you can raise it a bit, that would help.

Have you looked at Barrett Honors at ASU? My daughter is attending there next year and studying business. She turned down Michigan and Wisconsin. Included in every ranking of top honors colleges. We were really pleasantly surprised. It’s an excellent program and they give out a lot of aid. Plus the business school is very good. Not sure about Finance, but Management is ranked #9 in the country, and Supply Chain Management #2, both according to US News. Lots of NMFs, and the Thunderbird 4+1 program allows you to get a Master in Global Management in your 5th year.

I would also look at Minnesota Carlson. I got my MBA there. Loved that place, in a cool (and cold) city.
