I am a international student and i am already in the university in United States. Despite being tempted to enter to competitive college i got into WSU, MN. I had always dreamt about going to one of the competitive university. I am currently physics major and want to transfer to any good university.(MIT, HARVARD, CAL TECH, .........)
i want to apply for fall 2010.
i am a freshman in WSU now.
Here is what i wanted to know.

when shall i start the application procedure?
do i still need the SAT score and subjects tests to apply for?
if yes, how much score would you recommend?
do i need the TOEFL score because i am international student and english in not my native language?
what scholarships can be available for international student in MIT and HARVARD?
can international students get full ride?
what should be stats?

any suggestions regarding this is greatly appreciated.

Almost every one of those questions can be answered with a simple search on Google or a glance at those school's websites.

You should start your application NOW, or in a months, or two months four days, or 12 hours before the deadline.

I recommend 2400 and 800/800/800 on the SATs. Some schools don't require it for transfer.

OK take harvard aside as they dont accept transfer students anymore "at least for 2009"

for MIT you have to take:

either SAT I or TOEFL "if you have less than 5 years in English speaking country & your native language is not English TOEFL is recommended for you"

the minimum score required is 90(IBT) and recommended to aim for 100(IBT)

SAT II

you need to aim for +700 for math and scince subject " its good to have above +750 scores too" but 750 & 800 wont make a difference

your G.P.A should be around 3.5 and above, if it was lower you must work harder in every detail in your application to convince them that you are a worthy transfer candidate

if you got all the above just show who you are & be yourself, if they felt you are a fit you will have a good chance getting in

I hope that answered your questions

Good luck

thank you alyagoub
i had already taken iBT TOEFL and my score is 92.
and my SAT 1 score was 1800/2400. Cr 460 W 610 M 730.
since i started spring 2009 i havent got my GPA yet , but i am working hard to make it perfect.
any more information regarding scholarships would be great.

I don't think Harvard accepts transfers anymore. But I do know a lot about Caltech because I live and study in Pasadena. Caltech is right next to my cc.

so , makebank24 you should have enough idea , whether the students are transferred to Cal Tech from small state university or not ?

i also heard, there is no chance to got transferred to either MIT or Cal Tech from the state university where i study currently.i.e (winona State University, MN)
does my Smalll State university afects my transfer to good university?

The most important factors for transfer admissions are the courses you have taken, and the grades you have earned in those courses. Basically, you need to achieve grades that are as close to perfect as possible.

The next most important factor is the letters of recommendation from your professors. This means that you need to pay attention in class, participate intelligently in class discussions, and do well in those classes.

As for test scores, some universities will want them, some won't. I am concerned about your CR of 460. Are you still in ESL classes, or did you test out of them based on your TOEFL score? If there is an advanced reading and writing course available for you in the ESL department, you should take it. In order to succeed at the more prestigious universities, you will need much better reading skills.

^ . you are right.
I am still taking the ESL class. I tested out the placement test of mathematics but I didn't performed well on english placement test.
happymomoof1 , you figure out right that I am preety poor in my reading skills as it is reflected through my CR 460.
I feel reading so boring, so suggest me some interesting books that would improve reading skill.
Any suggestion regarding transfer application are welcomed.

Read whatever you have to for class, of course. Then read whatever else is interesting to you. Do you like sports? Buy the latest issue of Sports Illustrated and read it cover to cover. Find a sports fan on campus, and discuss what you have read with that person. Like current events? Buy the Sunday edition of the New York Times newspaper and read one article each day. Discuss what you read with your neighbors who are Poli Sci majors. Do you like mystery novels? Find one at the university library and read it for fun. Did you read Harry Potter in your first language? Get it in English and read it in English.

To improve your reading skills, the most important thing to do is read. The second most important thing to do is to talk about what you are reading. Don't be embarrassed about reading something that isn't quite "college level". You need to read things that are at YOUR level while you are improving your skills. The ESL teachers will have good suggestions for you too.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your suggestion. I will try find some books that interests me.

First of all, you need to improve your English. Reading will sharpen your writing skills.
To be realistic, please take a few minutes to look at MIT or Caltech transfer admission rates. Good Luck!

^I have realized that its hard to get into MIT or Cal Tech as a transfer applicant, but unfortunately I cannot find the statistic about the transfer rates. please if you include them would be great.
btw thank you for encouraging me more towards competitive application process.

what could be the things that can be done to make the application stronger ?
really stronger for competitive schools.

are there any suggestions for MUST DO LIST, to get into such school?
