I am a Freshman in Winona States University, MN. I started spring 09, so I haven't got my GPA yet. I am a physics major now. I am hoping to get above 3.8 . Please recommend me some good universities that are competitive and provide good scholarships for international transfers.I want to transfer for fall 2010.
When should i start worrying about the application process and application essay?
And please recommend me various things that can help me make the application strong.
I am now taking classes of...
calc 1.
calculus based physics 1.
chemistry 1
learning american culture and
English class
please suggest me what class should i take next sem?
is it good to take major class instead of gen ed classes?

I'm not really an "expert" at all but what kind of university are looking for in particular?

Do you want a big state college that has academics and a party atmosphere? or do you want a competitive study minded college? or do you want to go to an ivy league school? what are you plans after college? Put down some of your thoughts and this may give both you and us more insight.

thank you collegekid172009.
my first choice is MIT or Cal Tech. but i know it is very hard to get into any one of them.
i want to go to one of the IVY's for graduate school.
for transfer i want few competitive and studyminded collge.

everyone applying to MIT and CalTech as transfer students will have a 3.8+ college GPA
i don't know much about the transfer admission rates of either school but they'll also put heavy emphasis on your high school GPA and your SAT's

should I take SAT again if I want to apply to those university. I had 1800/2400(r 460w 610 m 730) and I know that poor score. do I need subject tests too??? I have good high school GPA, more than 3.8.
what else should I be concerned about if I want to get into those schools?
thank you

the classes youre taking are good, and you need to keep that up. also try joining some groups and stuff ,get leadership positions, show that you care about more than school.

this is what you need to do:
you need to get better SAT, i mean A LOT better...
you need to take subject tests
you need to write GREAT essays
you need to get a few good recommendations from teachers
you need to have great extracurricular activities
you need to get really really really lucky :)

I would say taking difficult classes and doing well in them is always the best possible thing to go, but good grades and a high GPA is more important. Taking gen ed requirements might also be good because then there is a greater chance of your new school accepting your credits. if you take classes in a major, not all schools will let you have those classes count. good luck!! how about Cornell? there pretty good with international students.

milkdud, I got a bit confused when I read your post.
what would you do?
If you really want to transfer to your top choice college, whether you would take hard classes and get good grades on them without concerning whether they would be transferred ot nor? OR you would be taking gen ed classes so that it would be easily transferred?
any ideas are most welcomed.
I am thinking about Cornell too but my top choices are MIT and Cal Tech.
Thank you
