Need help in roommate selection and housing selection

It would be great if someone could tell me which is the best place for freshmen…
Anyone accepted can also tell me if there is any social media throught which i could find a roommate…

I am accepted for computer engineering
Indian but brought up in Qatar.

There’s likely a Facebook group for the Class of 2020. As for housing, think about what you want from a dorm:

East - all freshmen, supposedly easier to make friends, but also far from everything and not very quiet
Pollock - quieter, more centrally located, decent amount of freshmen, but not as many as East
South - honors college and sororities
North - some suites, close to certain buildings like Forum but far from the southern part of campus
West - has the engineering special living option, some freshmen, one of the best dining halls IMO

@bodangles r u going to attend penn state???
Thnkz for the info… I am not on Facebook so it is gonna be hard to find a roommate
Thnkz tho

I’m a current sophomore who has lived in South for two years. You could also try the Room Surf website, or if finding a roommate by yourself stresses me out, you could just let PSU pair you up (go random). I didn’t feel like dealing with the speed-dating-esque process so that’s what I did. Good luck and welcome!

Hmm I guess i will see if i can find someone otherwise i will go random for sure… :stuck_out_tongue:
Thnkz a lot tho @bodangles

What is ur major?
I might pic west hall as it is closer to engineering college

I’m just about to enter ChemE. I know two people who lived in West last year and I think they liked it. The West dining hall is top notch. Lots of options and very good cookies.

Thnkz  @bodangles
U studied for two years already then y r u going to enter chemical engineering now??
Is tht if i get into college of engineering i dont get to choose my major till 4 semester…

After tht how do i get assigned to a major??
Does it depend on my GPA of the 4 sems???

One more question

And wat if my highschool final marks are not as good as mid year will i not be admitted?
Do the final marks make a difference…

Because that’s how majors work here. You complete a certain set of classes with grades of a C or above, you apply for a major during your fourth semester, they sort everyone from highest GPA to lowest, and they either take a specific number of people or everyone above a specific GPA.

Computer Engineering
Courses required with a grade of C or better:
CHEM 110
MATH 140
MATH 141
MATH 250 (required for major) or MATH 251
PHYS 211
PHYS 212
And the most recent required GPA is 2.60.

They’re switching over to a new administrative computer system but I think the main points of the process will remain the same.

Oh and they don’t really care about your grades after you’re accepted. As long as you do well enough to graduate and come here.

thnkz a lot @bodangles
i will be seeing u in Penn state this fall if all goes well
i am not tht great with maths calculus so do u recommend taking CS or CE ??
could u ask ur friends about it that have taken CE AND CS just to compare which has tougher maths…
is there much difference between
MATH 140
MATH 141
MATH 250 (required for major) or MATH 251
AND
MATH 140
MATH 141
MATH 230
i appreciate ur help

Math 230 is Calc 3 and 250/251 are differential equations, but as far as I know you have to take them both for any type of engineering anyway. Check out the recommended academic plans for CS and CE to compare: http://www.engr.psu.edu/AcademicPlans/

I don’t know anyone in CE so can’t help you there, sorry. Most if not all types of engineering/CS are going to require 3 calculus classes and 1 differential equations.

CS will have kinda less maths class…
Is calculus hard…
Like all calculus with several variable and stuff…
I am so scared for calculus Thts it :stuck_out_tongue: @bodangles

Multivariable Calculus isn’t until Calc 3 (Math 230) so you will likely not get to that until sophomore year, at which point you’ll have plenty of experience figuring out college-level math. Calc 1 is mostly differentiation/derivatives, Calc 2 integration and sequences/series. Differential Equations – you’re right, it looks like you wouldn’t have to take that for CS but would for CE. I took it last semester and didn’t find it that hard, but a freshman friend of mine took it at the same time and now has to retake it. I think a lot of it is just getting comfortable with what’s expected of you over time.

Great so what do u say should I change to CS just to get less maths… Or is it worth staying in CE…
@bodangles …I hope I get used to it

Will studying AP cal AB and BC help in uni ??? @bodangles

I can’t make a recommendation on a personal decision like that. Look at the rest of the academic plan and see what sounds more interesting to you. If you can make it through Calc 1 - 3 then you’ll make it through DiffEq too, so I’d choose a major based on other factors.

Sure, having prior exposure to the material will help.

Thnkz @bodangles
Will talk to u if I need more help
Appreciate ur time
Btw cya at penn state
