I just recently decided to look into more out-of-state institutions and I have found that I really like American University.
I really want to visit this school. I am hoping to apply with the intentions of becoming a political science major and hopefully pick up a few minors such as public administration & policy and criminology or a journalism major with similar minors. I have found that this school has the best variety of majors/minors in my interested field of study. I read that the acceptance rate is around 25%, however that is not always correct. Can someone let me know the demographics and info about students who are admitted. ACT, GPA, Ranking, emphasis on extra cirriculars and leadership, essay, etc… I am also looking for a diversity driven university. Also please if anyone can give an over view of the school and what to do when visiting. I am out of state and it will take me around 6 hours to get there. I would love to know if I should continue with this school as one of my top choices. Also please include any schools with emphasis on poli sci.
College Data is great resource to help you answer many of your questions. http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg01_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=475
Every college has to prepare a common data set that contains exactly this information (and lots of other useful facts). You can find it by googling American university common data set…
Thank you I had no idea about this resource!
ADMITTED STUDENT PROFILE FOR FALL 2017
• GPA Middle 50%: 3.44—3.97 (school reported)
• SAT Middle 50%: 1210—1370 (critical reading and mathematics)
• ACT Middle 50%: 27—3
This was the profile for Fall 2017 on the official website. Also, I’d recommend that you reach out early to the school to exclaim your interest cause they love if you love the school. And the acceptance rate now is 29%, but last year was around 25%.
