Hello, I’m a highschool freshman going into sophomore year I need help with my Extracurricular activities because I’m quitting band this year(can’t manage time)and I have one open spot for a class
Classes Sophomore Year
Honors World History
Honors Algebra 2
Honors English
Honors Chemistry (can’t take any other science class)
Honors Spanish
AP European History
? Last Spot I can’t decide on
What Should I Take?
PLTW-Took Intro to engineering this year and should I take Principles of Engineering Next Year. PLTW is a pre-engineering/STEM Program
Debate-I like Debating but have never done it because I’m a little shy and don’t have any experience. Can you guys tell me more about Debate I don’t know much about it and should I take it? Is Debate as time consuming as marching band?
Finish Up required Electives- I can e-school required Electives but should I take some with my open spot or do a extracurricular that will make my transcript took better?
Do you guys know any good extracurricular activities that aren’t super time consuming?
State-Texas
Thanks Guys For the help!!
Any good ECs will be time consuming. I have some experience with debate (college) and marching band (hs). It’s about the same amount of time.
IMO, I would just stick with band if you’ve already started it and you like it. Good ECs take time, that’s kind of the point of them.
If you can do the electives online, do that. Save the extra spot for an EC.
Debate is awesome but yes, very time consuming. Be prepared to give up a Saturday and sleep during tournaments and spend a lot of time outside class working on cases and speeches. That being said, I am shy too, and I feel like debate has helped with that, so yeah.
However, if I had to choose between debate and engineering I would choose engineering cause that’s just me. Or I would take a core class online and do both. (I love my electives :p)
Debate is fun. You do have to write speeches, and then present them in a argumentative manner in front of people, so make sure you can make people like you better. I’d choose debate, but everyone is different. I took engineering once, in 9th grade, and I was so afraid of failing because I’m not that creative.
Taking World history AND AP Euro history sound a bit like overkill.
What about an art-related elective?
I got my art credit (find arts) from band this year and Honors World History isn’t that hard but I’m a little worried about euro
Just don’t take the extra class, your schedule is good. Spend the time on an EC. Colleges want to see that you have a passion and invest lots of time and effort into a couple of them. I would continue with band. Any good EC should take time.
if you don’t have a passion, it’s okay. Just find something you don’t mind spending time doing, and spend a lot of time becoming the best you can!
