Hello there, I am an International student (India) applying for computer engineering and have admissions from Purdue and Wisconsin Madison. Looking at their rankings, Purdue is higher than Madison, but reviews about the town itself are not that great. Bottom-line is I want to study in a good school for computer engineering and have the best prospects for jobs and recruitment on campus. In addition, I am pretty good at Basket ball and would like to be at a school that may offer athletic scholarship based on my engagement.

Will appreciate opinions and feedback from my fellow forum members.

I don’t know about athletic scholarships but Wisconsin-Madison is better well rounded University. Since Wisconsin-Madison is little bit cheaper, go with it.

verity, Purdue is ranked #12 in Computer Engineering, while Wisconsin is ranked #14. I agree that #12 is higher than #14, but that hardly qualifies as noteworthy. In most other respects, Wisconsin is a better option than Purdue.

How are you from 3 point range? Seriously, basketball scholarship is highly unlikley although they have had a few international players over the years.

Madison easily over West Lafayette.

Why do you say so? What factors did you consider before making your desicion?

Madison is a great college town, about 2 hours from Chicago O’Hare international airport, with coach bus that travels to O’Hare. Purdue is in West Lafayette which most people do not consider much of a college town (I live in Indiana but have never been to West Lafayette). Madison is the state capital, a vibrant, diverse university community. Purdue is highly respected in engineering, an excellent school for that program. The ranking difference between those two schools is likely to be insignificant for job prospects.

Are there particular faculty or specialties within CE that either school has that you are more interested in?

No offense, but basketball is not likely to be a source for aid – both schools are in Division I and actively recruit and offer athletic scholarships. Div 1 schools generally know who they are bringing in for the next year before seniors have even applied to college.

Good luck – both schools are excellent on those fields.
