Need Help Scheduling

I found this website in one of the CMU emails I got
I read it through as well as this and I still can't get exactly what I need to send into them.

Is the Registration Packet for me to sign up for one semester?
I need to do all of these classes by the end of the year:
76-101 E (English/Writing Requirement) Section E is titled "Vampires!"
33-106 -Physics I
21-120thru122 at least (haven't gotten Calc Placement stuff back from the School yet)
24-101 --> Fundementals of ME
18-100 --> Intro to EECE
--> Co-Requirement 15-100 - Intro/Intermediate Programming
99-102 ---> Computer Skills Workshop

Help!

PS I found the CMU Pluse Scheduler and it made things worse. :(

I'm in CS, so my situation is a little different and I already sorted out most of my things. Are you an EECE major? I read part of the packet and this my suggestion, based on what you've said. I think that right now you just need to schedule first semester, but think about what you'll want to do second semester.

First Semester
99-101 Computer Skills Workshop
18-100 Intro to EECE
15-100, 15-111, or 15-200 Programming classes (See page 6 and 7, it's required if you sign up for Intro to EECE) (Restricted Technical Elective)
76-101 E "Vampires!" (General Education)
Calculus
CIT First-Year Seminar

Second Semester
33-106 Physics I for Engineers (Restricted Technical Elective)
24-101 Fundamentals of ME
Calculus
General Education Course (look on page 8)

About Calculus:
You'll need to complete either 21-120 and 21-122 (both semester long courses) or 21-121 or 21-123 (the second is a mini-course). For now, think about your scores on the AP test and online test scores and decide what calc you think you should take. Did you take AB and do well? If so, sign up for 21-122. If you feel really unsure about all of your calculus background, try 21-120. If you did well in BC and think you did well on the online test, sign up for Calculus in 3D or Differential Equations. 21-121 covers the second half of 21-120 and the first half of 21-122 so it is in the middle. I'm sure you'll be able to change your calculus class based on your scores.

I finished reading the packet, and you need to send them back the sheets at the end of the packet that you have to fill out, and it is only a schedule for first semester. Just answer all the questions and mail it back. The sooner the better, probably.

When I actually chose my classes, I made an excel sheet and put times down the left side (8:30 9:00 9:30 etc.) and days of the week across the top and color coded when I would be in class. That way I was able to move things around without constantly erasing. :)

I'm Undecided between EECE and ME, but I think that I am going to do the ME Portion First. What I'm more confused about is when i go to "the Pulse"'s Course Scheduler there are several 18-100's (for example) and I know that they are separated by Labs, Recesitations, and Lectures but How would I write those down on the sheet?

Thanks for all the help, KK.

PS I think that I got assigned to Hammershlag dorm :(

Each "class" you sign up for has several parts. After looking at some info on 18-100, it appears that, as you said, there are labs, recetations, and lectures. You need to choose a lecture, and in this case it seems you only have one choice. Then pick a recitation and lab that have matching section letters. There should be a place on the sheet to put the lecture and section that you're enrolling in.

Did you recieve a letter from CMU? All I have is the email they have sent me.

I got a big packet in the mail, but for CS I had two placement tests in addtion to the calc one and I have to schedule myself during orientation, so it's a bit difference. I got a shortened packet with classes freshman CS students are interested in/should take and a survey and a bunch of other stuff.

How long ago? When you got accepted and enrolled or recently?

About a month ago. It was due July 8th or something, and the order we sent them back determined the order we would register for our classes at orientatoin.

My d is an incoming freshman. She filled out some general forms about what courses she will take in the fall, but the papers said to assume that she wouldn't get AP credit, which she does expect to get. I see people saying that they have busy schedules and I don't understand how they could know this, unless they're beyond fresh. When do the fresh do their official schedule?? Should they contact their advisor (and who is that??) before orientation? Thanks for all your help!

Forgot to add, in case it is relevant, that my d is in MCS.

All the schools do their pre-freshman scheduling differently. I can say that I'm busy because I have 5 real classes in addition to freshman immigration and computer skills workshop, which each last a semester. The sample schedules I got in a packet all were like that, so I figured that it was what I should do.

The credit I have received has been posted online, though it is not available to most people. If you have your daughter go to the hub, student information online, log on, and go to grades.. then choose AP from the drop down menu and hit submit, they might be posted for her.
http://www.cmu.edu/mcs/education/edu_ap.html has the MCS AP policy

I searched around on the CMU website and found that your daughter's advisor should be Eric Grotzinger; he advises all freshman in MCS. eg1b@andrew.cmu.edu is his e-mail address.
http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/eg1b/ is his webpage

Thanks a bunch! I will pass the info on to her. :)

I have a question about class times. How can a calc class that is supposed to be 3 hrs have section 1 M, W, F and other sections that are only T and R at 1 hour a piece? These other sections don't add up to 3 hrs a week.

Are you sure you're not talking about a calc class where you need to sign up for lectures which are MWF and recitations that are TR? I saw something weird with times for a programming class, but I just assumed it had to do with majors and non-majors.

yea you're right I just understood it. But why do you have to register for recitations? Will it cost more?

Well the credits don't increase if you add recitation so I guess its just for the teacher to know how many people want to come?

No, it won't cost you more and it's required. I think that recitations range from lab time for programming classes, to Q&A sessions, to a chance for students to take quizzes over material, so depending on the class, going to the recitation may be very important.

Just... trust me. You have to sign up for one. Alternatively, you could read the packet that tells you to, instead of listening to me.

yea they automatically tack on the lab/recitation when you register for a class that has recitations available.
