I am currently applying to college and I am very sure that I would like to pursue a career in medicine. I live in New York City and I am Hispanic. I have a 1250 for SAT scores (critical reading 620, Math 630) but I have taken the November SAT and think I have done better. I have a GPA of 4.0 (98%) and I am in the top 5% of my class. I have a lot of extracurricular activities and leadership roles.

I am currently applying to Sophie Davis School for Biomedical Education. However, I need some other colleges that would be a good choice for premed in my area just in case I don't get into Sophie Davis. I need either a good four year college with a good medical program or preferably a good advanced medical program like Sophie Davis close to or in NYC. Thanks a lot for your help.

Cornell-- Ag & life sciences college (NY state supported so tuition is less for you as a NY resident)- you can get all the science requirements needed for pre med. Your SATs are a bit low but they like minority students. Try to bring them up to 1300's -- you can do it. Study for the Dec SAT's using the tips (google Xiggi, SAT wordlist direct hits,Mysterytutor) on this website.

You can do a lot better than the school you mentioned, especially with your stats and your ethnicity.
Duke? Great pre-med program. I know it's not in NYC..but it's worth a shot.
Cornell too. ^^

Hey thanks a lot for all the suggestions this is really helping me out. I didnt know I actually had a chance for those schools. Im just afriad that I am not applying to enough schools and that when the time comes for acceptence all my hard work would be for nothing if I dont get into a good college. So if anyone has any more suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.

Stony Brook and Binghamton are obvious choices. Vassar, Goucher. Consider Goucher. They have cross registration with Hopkins, and have a great program for degree holders who did not complete premed. Premed there should be good.
