I am going to be a freshman in college next school year and will be going to St. John's University in Queens, NY. (Major is finance, minor journalism)

I want to find a job in LA after college and I figured it would be in my best interest to attend a school in LA. First of all, would you say it would be better for me to find a school in LA if I want to work there after college?

And so, how hard will it be for me to transfer to UCLA coming from a private school like St. John's in New York? I want to major in either business economics or economics. So what should I prioritize? Does UCLA look at mostly grades or are extra curricular factor in? I will try my best to get good grades but i'm not sure I can get enough internships as a freshman.

Also, UCLA is a little expensive, so it it worth it?

If i don't end up transferring to UCLA, will the fact that I went to a school in NYC hurt my chances with LA employers?

You’ll be last in line for transfer admissions at UCLA, behind community college transfers, intra-campus transfers and CSU-to-UC transfers. It’s very difficult to transfer to most UCs for that reason.

Not only what polarscribe said, but Econ and BussEcon are extremely competitive majors. You’d have a tough time getting in in a normal major, but those are almost impossible to transfer into. The average GPA for those majors of admitted transfer students is 3.9, so needless to say it’s extremely difficult even coming from a CC instate.

The admit rate for out-of-state in 2011 was 13.01%. Business Econ and Econ are among the most selective majors at UCLA. Also note there were 3 students who applied from St john’s and 0 were admitted.
