need info: what exactly is an international student?

How do you know if you are an international student or not?

Are you a US citizen? If not, then you are a international student.

If you're not a citizen or permenant resident of the country with the university you're applying to, then you're an international student.

(Note: I think some universities in the US count Canadians as domestic students for certain things)

Thanks for the info guys..

I am not yet a citizen, but my legal papers are currently being processed for my RESIDENCY.

Do you need to apply as an international student if you're a resident?

If you are a permanent resident, then most likely not. You should check with the university though to make sure, although I do not remember seeing any university whatsoever not to pool together citizens with permanent residents.
If you are a temporary resident, things could differ a little.

if your papers are being processed, u have a special status...i forget what its called. Once u get ure A-number, you are officially a permanent resident. Anyhow, if youre papers are being processed, you are usually granted the same treatment as permanent residents.

My papers are processed too........

The green card is supposed to come out this year, but some problem with Immgra. Department delayed it.

No, A-number is not enough. They want to see your papers APPROVED. Moreover, they want to see the actual green card (or a stamp in your passport, which is equivalent).

The status when you've applied, but the application is still pending, is "adjustment of status", or AOS. We had the same status last year, when Ss applied; they had to apply as internationals. When the application was approved, we contacted each college and asked them to change the status - they asked to fax copies of green cards.

thanks for all the info guys. any other ideas are most welcome. you're all of good help

Man, when I came to this country, I believed in American dream...

I am not sure if I still do.

^ Why not?

good question.

it is all after I heard MIT is harder to get in without a greencard.

no matter how much i try, my odd is greatly disadvantageous.
