Need insight

Hi, I'm currently a junior in high school in Maine USA, and taking the SATS in a couple days. My current GPA is a 3.8 and I take mostly honors classes and the few AP classes my high school offers.

I wanted to go to an Ivy league school, mainly revolving around physics. My school unfortunately only offers Honors physics senior year, so I don't think I'll be able to get around to taking the SAT subject test. The only one I would probably take is mathematics II and physics which I don't see possible. Will not taking these tests hinder my chances in getting into a decent prestigious college. I was looking at Duke, Princeton, or Cambridge for Aerospace engineering/Astrophysics, or physics, etc. but I'm not sure how I can qualify.

Will colleges be interested if I plan on taking the tests in may/june when the tests are offered or do you have any suggestions.

Also, I am wondering what the ACT test is? Is that what my school would call the accuplacer? Scoring high enough on the SATS like 1600+ means I won't have to take that but I wonder if those 2 things are completely different.

It would definitely have helped if you were able to take the relevant SAT subject test. However, not doing so shouldn’t hurt your application too much. You will still have to take two subject tests though (even if they aren’t necessarily relevant to your anticipated course of study).
I have no idea whether or not taking the ACT circumvents the subject test requirement so I can’t offer any advice on that front.

My word of advice for those schools is that it is better to do more than do the bare minimum. The people I knew who got excepted into prestigious colleges like Yale and Cornell all had over 4.0 GPA as well as stellar scores of SAT. So I think you should take the SAT…but if you take SAT, I don’t think ACT is that important. It’s only if you do poorly on SAT should you take ACT in hopes that it’s a test more suited to you.
