Need Psych 110 for Psych 117?

(1) Have those that have taken 117 and done well also take 110 prior??

(2) Also, anyone understand how waitlisting works for this class? During TB it said I was number 2 on the waitlist for a particular section but on BF it lists me as 56 overall and its an automatic waitlist. I fall in:

Students with a major of Psychology and Students with a class level of Senior or Junior or Sophomore (Open)

(I fit only the second criteria though and will be declared early january. Do we need to fit both or one or the other to become enrolled?)

Thanks

Hi,
I took both of those classes concurrently, and did really well (got A’s)… Psych 110 helps, but not too much, you’d be able to survive just studying lecture notes and the textbook. It helps to know the basics of the brain (which 110 helps with), but if you’re motivated, you can learn that material as you go on. Just take really good notes, and clear up anything you’re confused about with the GSI’s early on.

I think in general with the psych courses, they put more emphasis on the “section” waiting list, since those in an open section will most likely get into the class. Also, when you’re declaring - they ask which class you want to get in the most, and they add that one for you.

Good luck! You’ll learn a lot from that class!

Perfectly answered my qs-thx neurobear :)

Did u also take it with knight then? I hear good stuff about him-but hes also an md so im a little worried about the pace…

Yep I took it with knight then… he’s a pretty amazing lecturer, and since he’s an md - he tells plenty of interesting anecdotes of patients, and even shows clips so you can see their behavior. I do admit he’s kind of fast paced, so if it’s possible to record his lecs (w/ permission) do that, or form a study group so you can share notes. good luck :)
