Need serious help/suggestions about transferring

Hey guys, I am currently a sophomore at community college but I want to transfer to a uc really bad. Ucsb in particular. My minimum year was from 2013 to 2015. The problem is that I didn't know what I wanted to major in until my 2nd semester. Now it seems that I would have to take two extra years here since I've heard UC's only require finished pre-requisites of a major in order for you to get in (I only stuck with the IGETC. How can I possibly get into a UC in just another year? Should I take online classes? Take extra classes in a semester? Stick with IGETC. Please I need help and would be fully appreciative if anyone can lead me in this. Thanks

What is your planned major? What school are you currently attending? What prereqs have you completed thus far?

If you send me a sanitized version of your transcript (i.e. sharpie out your name, phone number, address, social security, and any other information that you believe is sensitive), I can create a mock evaluation if you’d like.

@Jbyi236‌ - If you have a decent GPA (3.2+) you could just TAG to UCSB and finish any needed pre req’s there. You just need the English and Math completed plus the GPA for TAG assuming you have 60 units completed by the end of next Spring.

If you have one semester done, and they are all IGETC, then you are just fine and can apply this Fall, for Fall 2015 admissions. Let’s say you have 12 units completed, all IGETC, now you need to find the right balance of IGETC and major prereqs and schedule it out through Spring 2015. You need to have 60 units completed by the end of Spring 2015 to be elegible for Fall 2015, but remember, you begin the application process in 2-3 months from now (see: the UC admissions link below).

This is all very dependent on the major you choose. You can select a major that requires 0-3 prereq courses, or a major that requires 15 prereq courses, so without knowing what your major is, it’s difficult to fully assess your situation. So, follow these steps…

Go to www.assist.org and find your major’s prereqs.

Create a mock plan to achieve 60 units, all IGETC and major prereqs by the end of Spring 2015

Go see a counselor ASAP, bring your plan and your counselor will validate it, or help you change it.

Begin filling out your UC Admissions planner now, so you’re ready when apps open up: <a href=“UC Transfer Admission Planner - UC TAP | UC Admissions”>https://uctap.universityofcalifornia.edu/students/</a></li>

Keep in mind, some UC’s and majors do not require you to finish all of your major prereqs, just the amount available to you at your CCC, so there is some flexibility. You must verify this with your counselor(s), the more counselors you speak to at your CC and the UC you want to attend, the better.

Lastly, all of this is dependent on your major and ability to also take Summer and Winter courses to insure your 60 units, IGETC and most major prereqs by Spring 2015. That is exactly what I’m doing so prepare yourself for a lot of work if you don 't want to wait 2 years.

Good luck!

depends on your major. If you are a stem major, esp engineering uc’s want you to finish all your prereqs before igetc
