Need Some Advice

I'd like some feedback on my chances. I know they aren't great (sucky GPA/EC). My standardized tests are good, though. Please be honest, but don't destroy me...I have feelings. Also, I am applying to safety schools...these are just the highly selective schools I'm applying to.

Brown University
University of Pennsylvania

Bump.......

University of Michigan- perfect match
Michigan State University- absolute safety
Northwestern University-match
Columbia University-slight reach
Stanford University-reach
University of California - Berkeley- slight reach
Brown University-reach
University of Pennsylvania-reach

*i only consider them reaches cuz their ivy+

u have a great shot at all of these schools

Thanks. Anyone else?

Brown is a reach and Columbia a slight reach?????????????? UPenn harder than Columbia? Why bother posting when you really don't know.....

I think suze's point here is that generally the difficulty of admission to the Ivies are (top to bottom):

1-3. Harvard, Yale, and Princeton (all close, but probably in this order)
4-5. Dartmouth and Columbia
6-7. Penn and Brown
8. Cornell

The only exception to this order is if you are trying to get into Penn's Wharton school (the business program)--which is slightly tougher to get into than Dartmouth or Columbia--

University of Michigan- perfect match
Michigan State University- absolute safety
Northwestern University-match
Columbia University-slight reach
Stanford University-reach
University of California - Berkeley- slight reach
Brown University-reach
University of Pennsylvania-reach

*i only consider them reaches cuz their ivy+

u have a great shot at all of these schools

ARE YOU SMOKING WEED? (BECAUSE IF YOU ARE GET ME SOME, PLEASE?)

University of Michigan- Match (In-State, Good Scores)
Michigan State University- Super Super Safety
Northwestern University- Reach (GPA is way to low, however ACT and SAT scores may really help)
Columbia University-Reach (Same as above)
Stanford University-Reach (Same as above)
University of California - Berkeley- Reach (Same as above)
Brown University- Reach (Same as above)
University of Pennsylvania- Reach (Same as above)

Your standardized test scores are superb, but people applying to those ivies and such probably will have as good or better scores, better GPA's (3.65 is pretty low for ivies), your EC's are average nothing specatacular (they are better than nothig). I would say you have a shot at these schools, but your GPA is holding you back, you should still apply though because there is a chance.....

they wont like the fact that you're pakistani and have good standardized test scores; ECs probably matter more for you than the typical applicant.

Ivies aren't going to happen. Asian, second decile, no special ECs. Focus on UMich, hopefully you're in state.

theonewith:

UCB: Slight Reach (out of state)

bobby100, I am instate for Michigan. I'm applying to UMich in September, so I think I'll be okay for that.

gpa is sort of low..I think columbia SEAS will be a slight reach because of that (I'm assuming columbia seas judging from the courses you've taken) Depends on the essays you write i guess..people have gotten in from my school with 92's . . . so it's not a super reach as some say

Its very unlikely that you would be accepted into Columbia, Stanford, etc. You have excellent test scores, but low grades and no apparent passion in terms of ECs. I would focus on Michigan (good match) and Northwestern (reach, but still very reasonable). Also, look into some similar elite schools such as Rice, UChicago, Emory and Cornell.

Make absolutely certain you have some safe schools. Your stats are extremely math/science-heavy, which can be unpredictable for admissions.
