I'm a junior and took the SAT in January. These are my scores:
CR- 650
Math-680
Writing-770
Total:2100

I know I need to improve my CR and Math to get into the top schools...but I think I'm somewhat close. Any advice? I'm retaking in May.

Is your issue sentence completion or passage-based? If it’s sentence completion, then I highly recommend studying direct hits. You can study all 400 words in about 2 days if you work really hard or you can spread it out over a long period of time. If it’s passage-based I think one key point that so many people forget is the fact that the answers to critical reading MUST be stated or directly implied in the passage. If there is no direct evidence for a certain answer, even if it is plausible, then it is wrong. CR isn’t supposed to be a big guessing game, all the answers are right there.

For math, I suggest buying the Blue Book and answering every single math question and then go through every question you missed or guessed on at khanacademy(dot)org where this Princeton grad gives answer explanations for every BB question.

I missed 5 on both the sentence completions and the passages. Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely try direct hits
