Need some parents opinions

Need a parent's opinion

I'm proposing this to my parents in a few hours, and I was wondering if I could get a few opinions on it.. ie. Whether you guys think it's a good idea or not, whether you would want your kid doing this etc...
Some background : I'm transferring schools next year, as a sophomore. I'm a BFA theatre major, and I am very lucky in that I actually get to keep my credits and enter as a sophomore into another BFA program. The only downside to this is I barely know my fellow classmates, and they've spent a whole year becoming very close. I've spent some time at the campus I'm transferring to, (2 weeks at a summer program in 2008, and 2 days in Jan 2010 to audition.) But I've really only been to one part. Housing isn't guaranteed for transfers, so my parents and I haven't been searching online for places and have found one we've really liked. We've applied for a spot, but I'm a little wary of signing a lease blindly, without having seen it in person, because websites can be deceiving.
So, my spring break is coming up, and what I'd like to propose to my parents is that on the way back from where I live (CA), I go to the school for 2 days to get some things done. These are the main points:
-My really good friend goes there, and she's invited me to stay with her, so I wouldn't need a hotel or anything.
-I've been in contact with a few of the students from the class I'd be entering and they said they'd take me around and teach me all the traditions. Sort of a bonding thing, so when I'd get there next fall, I wouldn't be the 'odd one out'.
-I've checked flights and it's only about $100 dollars difference with my current travel plans, which I'd be more than willing to pay for.
-I could make an appointment with the apartment people for a tour and to possibly sign a lease while I'm there.
-I would have the opportunity to sit in on some more classes. I was able to when I auditioned in January, but I think I was so nervous, I wasn't really focused at all. On a side note, I would also have the opportunity to see a performance there, something I've never been able to do. It's not high on the list, but for my major, it's important.
-I could have a talk with the professors about my credits transferring in person, rather than the emails we've been currently sending. That way I could have a better idea of what I need to do this summer to be on track.

What do you think? Any ideas/opinions are more than welcome :) Thanks so much!

Sounds like a good plan to me - I would agree if I were your parent.

i’d agree to it, well thought out

Sounds like a fabulous plan and shows you are taking responsiblity for yourself.

That sounds like a very good plan. You will probably still need your parents to sign on the lease, but maybe the landlord could fax your parents a copy after you see it.

Very well thought out plan … as a parent, I’d be on board with it.
Why do you think your parents will object?

Thanks everyone! I just talked to them and got a solid “maybe”- we have to look at flights and such to see if it will all work out. However, it seems as though the prices of flights have sky-rocketed within the last 2 days, and now it seems it’ll be at least a $300 price difference and I don’t know if I can do that, so I have to think about it a lot this weekend, unless the prices drop again, or I can apply my skymiles.

I would say fine. I wanted my kids to find their own places even as undergrads. Your plan is well thought out. Just be clear that this school HAS classes when yours does not.

^^ Airline prices are usually lower on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Weekends the quotes are usually the highest.

A great time to say words of appreciation to your parents. Do this whether or not the air fare and trip work out. It is a good idea (the trip) but not all good ideas pan out. Show that you can deal with disappointment and don’t fuss if the answer is no.

Most of the things you listed are based in nervousness. They can be conquered later. Maybe you’d rather do it your way now – but that is on their dime – so show that you can conquer things on your own next fall if that’s what needs to happen.

monologue, did you check the price using MULTI-CITY booking. if you go to something like kayak.com and click multicity, then put in your departure city /date, your stop with dates of arrival and departure, your final destination and back to original , i have usually found the difference in price is minimal from a return ticket…if you book it as 2 different flights the price is alot higher.

It sounds to me as if this trip would be worth $300. Of course, if you can get a lower fare, so much the better.
