Planned Senior Year

AP tests I plan to take this year (self study):
AP Physics C: Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism
AP Computer Science
AP Japanese

Extracurriculars (my weak point)
Science Olympiad since freshman year, I’ve placed at least top 5 in all my events since last year, usually 1st or 2nd

I taught myself up to high intermediate level Japanese, I can read most of light novels and watch anime now

I plan to take Differential Equations at a community college this summer

I basically wasted my time playing video games until junior year so not many extracurriculars. Right now I spend most of my free time studying for the extra AP tests I plan to take or helping friends with schoolwork. I think my main talent is the ability to understand new concepts quickly and learn by myself. For example, last year for Science Olympiad I was put in a completely new event a week before the state competition. I knew nothing about Rocks and Minerals but I went hard and ended up getting first place.

I’m mostly interested in going somewhere in California or the Northeast. I don’t know what I want to major in but probably something biology, chemistry, or physics related. Money is not a problem.

UVA, UC Berkeley. Also WUSTL, but that’s in the midwest. Just a school to check out, number 1 biology and premed program.

You certainly have the academic chops to aim high, but I also recommend some Matches and Safeties. If you want a large university, and money isn’t an issue, then apply to a bunch of UCs. UCLA and Berkeley are certainly within reach, and others are matches or safeties. They all have superb science departments. If you want a smaller college, look at Pomona (reach) or Harvey Mudd (high-match/low-reach) in the Claremont Consortium. Cal Tech and Stanford aren’t out of the question for you, nor are any Ivies, but add Tufts, Lehigh, Pitt, and your VA in-state colleges to mix. Johns Hopkins also seems like an obvious pick for you. Think about whether you want a large research university or a smaller liberal arts college. Apply to as many reaches as you’d like, or pick a favorite for Early Decision, but then include a match school with non-binding Early or Rolling Admission, where you would be happy.

Do you want to be in a city or the middle of nowhere and do you want small or large are the first two questions to ask and answer?
Visit some schools and decide what size and student body feels right and go from there.

Don’t be too overconfident and find safeties too
