which laptop should i get?

You should get one with at least 33 mhz and a floppy disk drive.

...where to begin?!

i want a xps, you think its necessary? will ever be able to use all its features besides gaming?

UCLAYAY- lol. the functionality of cassette players stopped making sense in 1995. why spend money, space, and lots and lots of time on a stupidly outdated technology when there are about a billion and six current, affordable options. kind of the silliest thing ive ever heard. mixed tapes are a cute novelty piece of nostalgia at best, but they're hardly a realistic and worthwhile option for consistent modern use.

Thanks allie, maybe its time to upgrade to a compact-disc player

might be a good investment yo.

it is not remotely necessary. an XPS would be a desktop replacement, ie a waste of money.

look for something around 7lbs or less, 1-2GB of RAM, either 2ghz+ single core or 1.5ghz+ dual, and graphics is up to your needs/wants. integrated works unless you play new games or do 3D rendering, i'm pretty sure they're all able to play DVDs smoothly by now.

6-7 lb laptops are mainstream, meaning 14.1-17" screens, usually 2-2 1/2 hours of battery, and upper-midrange dedicated video cards at best. note that some still have integrated video. less than 6 lbs are lightweights and ultralights, with 15.4" screens or smaller, less capable video cards or integrated graphics, and 3+ hours of battery.

so what would be a good choice then? i mean, what model? all i know is that i want a dell cuz i hate macs...

"BUY A MAC AND GET A FREE iPOD NANO"

LOL

i already have a video ipod though...

just for specific brands, look at Toshiba and Sony. i know those are generally good/reliable, and the general computer nerd population stays away from Dell. and HP-Compaq for that matter, though i think HP laptops are fine.

look at CNET and notebookreview.com for reviews and ratings for specific models. the notebookreview forums should have some guides too. just make sure you don't get caught up on some amazing laptop with features you'll rarely use.

if you insist on sticking with Dell, though, Inspiron with 14.1 or 15.4" screen
