Need to explain?

Hi everyone,

I'm Berkeley Class of 2013.

I know you've been getting a lot of "OMG RESCIND?!" topics, but please hear me out. Hopefully, I won't be rescinded since I met the minimum GPA requirement my senior year. (3.0UW each in fall and spring). I took all AP courses so it was a 4.0W both semesters.

Basically, my dad got really sick the summer before senior year. I got C's and D's in my first quarter, but my teachers were really helpful and I managed to get A's and B's in my second quarter and they all averaged out to 1 C, 3 B's, and 1 A. My dad didn't get much better, but I had more confidence in myself for second semester and I got A's in nearly all my classes the third quarter. And then we had another family crisis and I literally couldn't study/do homework until 10-11pm because I had to take care of my family. My grades slipped to B's and they were low enough to turn my A's into 85-88s.

Basically, I feel like all colleges reserve the right to rescind anyone given reason. I went from having a 3.83 UW average GPA to a 3.0UW my senior year. I want to explain to them the reasons for my grade drop, even though my college counselor said I didn't have to because I met the requirements, and that my reasons sound more like excuses. (Why I put off emailing them before.)

I just would like opinions on this. Am I really "in the clear?" and Cal's admissions will be okay with this? Thanks a lot.

if you met the minimum gpa requirement. you won’t be rescinded… unless you commit a felony.
