Need Transfer Advice!

Hi everyone! I am a first-year student at a small liberal arts college in the rural midwest. On paper, this school seemed like a great fit, but I’ve had a very difficult adjustment to college life. While I like my classes and am doing well academically, I’ve had a really hard time “fitting in” and to be honest cannot see myself lasting four years at this school. I’ve tried to join clubs and get involved, but I still am not doing well emotionally. I was thinking about transferring to an east-coast school closer to home but was honestly not sure what to do. I’d like to be at a larger school in a more urban environment.

I want to major in political science (pre-law track), so I was looking at Georgetown and George Washington University as potential transfer schools. I know Georgetown is a long shot, so I was wondering if anybody had recommendations for academically rigorous mid-size schools with strong pre-law programs? Ideally schools that offer decent financial aid and support to transfer students.

(And yes, I know that it can take longer than one semester to adjust to a school, but I want to keep my options open  ). Thank you in advance.

Consider American University in Wash DC. Nice campus located in a very safe area.

Not sure what you mean by a “pre-law track in political science” or by “strong pre-law programs”.

Preparation for law school is anything that involves analytical thinking and analytical writing.

Thank you! I will add American to my list.

By pre-law track I was referring to how some universities have pre-law majors or programs (tracks) with classes they want you to take to prepare for law school, and by strong pre-law programs I meant schools with good reputations for sending students to T14 law schools.

American, suggested above, nicely matches your stated preferences. As with Georgetown and GW, you will need to determine its affordability, however.

These represent some of the nation’s stronger choices for your intended major:
