Need Transfer Recommendations

Hi, I’m a rising sophomore at a t30 liberal arts school studying business. Current school isn’t a good academic or social fit and am actively looking to transfer, but have no gauge of where I stand a chance. Below are stats and EC’s/interests

3.7 cum GPA 43 credits completed end of freshman year
amazing experience within the business field (fortune 500 startups etc)
wasn’t able to get involved on campus because of covid-19

I’m looking for a medium-large school, that preferby gives good financial aid but am willing to stretch.

What schools should I apply to?

You want to continue studying business but in a medium to large school setting? Any geographic restrictions or concerns? How much financial “stretching”? Transfers often get very poor FA.

What ECs do you do plan to do this year? You’ve had amazing experiences or you’re looking for them?

No geographic restrictions, would be great to get merit/financial aid, but not extremely necessary. In terms of ECs, have had top tier experiences within the business field. Was involved heavily in a lot of EC’s within my high school, planning on getting involved in community service orgs/an RA position next year.

Hopefully this info helps a bit!

Are you seeking somewhere larger than, say, the University of Richmond?

Around that size or larger!

I’d thought you actually might have been at the University of Richmond. Since this doesn’t appear to be the case, I’ll recommend UR for your indicated preferences.

If you’re comfortable sharing why that might help with recommendations.

How about Wake Forest?

Yeah of course! School itself is extremely cliquey social climby vibe. In terms of academics, very very limited within the business major, maybe 20 options in classes a semester

Thank you! Nooo, school I attend is roughly half the size. Do you think I stand a chance based off of ECs/GPA?

Wake Forest looks good, but don’t know if I’d fit into the social scene there. Any other recommendations? Thanks so much

What about NYU, Columbia, CUNY Baruch College? Or Pace?

Should specify this - im from NYC, so don’t want to go home for school

Well, yes, you should specify much more about what you’re looking for - otherwise it’s just a guessing game.

As a rising Soophmore many schools will look at High School record. a rising Junior would look a t college record.
I would look again at schools you were accepted to out of High School and reevaluate them to start

Transfer acceptance rates are often similar to freshman acceptance rates or worse in the case of HYPSM and many of the top LACs. However, there are some schools that are more transfer friendly so I’d suggest starting with them in terms of researching their business major course breadth and depth and related opportunities:

  • Claremont McKenna College
  • College of William and Mary
  • Colorado College
  • Cornell University
  • Emory University
  • Georgia Institute of Technology
  • Lehigh University
  • Notre Dame University
  • Sewanee: University of the South
  • Tufts University
  • University of California, Berkeley
  • University of California, Los Angeles
  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • University of Richmond
  • University of Southern California
  • University of Virginia
  • Vanderbilt University
  • Wesleyan University

Your answer might depend on honest self-evaluation. If you have been a strong student who has been engaged in your classes (which will be reflected directly in your grades and recommendations and indirectly in your essays), UR may be within range for you.
