Need your help on where to apply

Hey guys,
Asian male from NY
3.7 weighted (around 3.3 unweighted) GPA all honors and ap classes
1270/1600
1880/2400 SAT - I know I can get this 1350+/2000+ so I’m taking it again.

Classes taken that stand out:

AP World History (10th)
AP US History (11th)
AP Language (11th)
AP Stats (11th)
AP Calc BC (11th)

Senior year classes next year that stand out:
AP Lit
AP Govt and Economics
AP Physics
Calc III

I’ve decided to at least major in finance and maybe double major in finance with second major in accounting/management

The most important thing to me is that I have the most opportunity after I get out of college, all other factors aside from money don’t matter nearly as much.

Probably applying to the follow undergrad bussiness schools:

Indiana - Bloomington (Am I going to get direct admission to the business school)
Illinois - Urbana
Wisconson - Madison
Northeastern
Boston University
Emory (If I get a good second SAT)
Fordham
SUNY Geneseo

After college what I really want to do is attain a high level finance type job like ie analyst, ibanker, etc… (Small chance but gotta try) Though private colleges like Boston U is better overall, Indiana’s business and especially finance are much higher rated and might even be more recruited. Which one would give me the better chance of getting a higher level job when I graduate?

Money. I dont’ have good enough scores to get any decent scholarships and my parents combine to make over 140k. That means I’m not gona get much help. 40k a year for private or 27k for public. Is a private school worth the extra money? Based on experience what do you guys think?

Also, what would my chances of getting into a top MBA program be in my various choices. I don’t know if a prestigious MBA program such as Haas or Stern would accept me if i end up going to Northeastern or Indiana for my undergraduate studies.

Can anyone give me more college recommendations? More reaches, matches, safeties?

I think that your list is pretty good. I really cannot answer #3 for you. I would think that a high college gpa is not going to close those doors to you. I would not go into debt and stick with the publics, esp. since you want graduate school. Some more schools to look at would be a couple of privates: Bentley, Babson, and then given your family's income and knowing that you want grad school, I would look at some other publics. I would really look at Suny Bing and Buffalo (since you are instate). Make sure you pick the right Buffalo school (there are 2 of them, and I am not clear on their exact names). You might also look at UConn (but it is around 30,000 this year), so the SUNYs would be a much better deal for you. My own son will be going to James Madison. He wants business too, and it is not rated as highly as IU, but it is closer to home (which he prefers) and he just loves everything about it. I will say that most students seem very happy there.

Thanks, anyone else have ideas

Look at Indiana&Indiana very closely. A lot of firms recruit there and a lot of their students go to great MBA programs. Also think about Fordham, CUNY-Baruch and Syracuse.
Hope that helps.

Don't worry about top placement at Indiana, as their MBA school is a top 20 school. So you always have that to fall back on. And their B-School is known as one of the best around the country. You will get into a good MBA program, because they give you internship oppurtunities all over the country, and really help your resume.

Make sure you check out scholarship oppurtunities. They will give you 7K per year for a faculty award with your stats, see if you qualify for Honors College, and if so, you could get more money there, also you'll get the SSA (selective scholarship application), possibly more money there. Do you have a class rank? Mitte Scholarship and Kelley Scholars are oppurtunities as well. Also shoot for early in the year the Wells Scholars program.

You will get into direct admit. It's automatic if you have the stats and you do.

I think IU is the best school on your list. I didn't apply to UIUC (last minute decision), turned down UW-Madison (because of the price), and am going to Indiana. I'm very happy with my decision. You might want to also try U Michigan-Ann Arbor, they have a great business school and although it's a bit of a reach, it doesn't hurt to try.
