Negotiating?!

Accepted to both Oxy and UC Berkeley. Can't afford Oxy. :(

Now trying to appeal my financial aid letter (I got a merit scholarship but want/need more money). If I bring up the fact that I'm also considering Cal (which is considerably cheaper), will Oxy budge?

Or should I just straight-forward beg?

Help!

hi velocity

We are in the same situation. OXY's FA came in about twice that of UCLA (did you already receive UCB's FA package?)

I've heard that you need to compare apples with apples and since OXY is private and costs twice as much as CAL (public)......appealing FA might not be as effective.

If my son decides on OXY, I will contact OXY and inquire. As of right now, OXY wants all our medical receipts, which sounds simple, but in our situation, will require several hours of work. Ugh. So I'm waiting to see what son decides.

Also, you should check if your financial situation wasn't adequately expressed on the FAFSA and PROFILE.....i.e. high medical bills, a change in your parents' job situation etc.

Good luck. Let me know how it goes!

well, Oxy's financial stuation is not that strong. Thus I decided
not to apply for financial aids for my child. Don't get too greedy.
My son chose Oxy over other Ivies.
