If you look like this http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/_img/chars/char_33889.jpg THEN THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG

I used to think I was a nerd and was proud of that. then people pointed out I was just smart but not nerdy. I’m not happy but reading this thread made me think they might be right. for example, I do like Hollister and Abercrombie. :D

haha Tenors I like that jpg!

@tenors lololol

haha tenors… I agree

I’m pretty damn smart.

LOLL Wait! I think nerd is often used in a negative way… Like say you finish all the work in class and this guy is like, “Nerd.” It’s obvious they’re just jealous, but I think some people use that word in a bad way? lol. Everyone can be smart in one thing or another… but a true nerd, I don’t know, I’ve never met any that fit the looks AND characteristics.

@Lulllies.
Actually. I have. Two that I can remember in my life… or three? I can’t say.

1st boy.
Asian. Awkward and quiet. Very soft voice, always seems nervous when he speaks. Shorter than me (I’m 5’3). Scrawny. Acne. (Gone now! I’m jealous.) Terrible fashion sense that has been slowly improving. Has large eyes, and wears thin rimmed glasses. The first time I saw him, I think he was wearing a polo tucked inside his blue jean shorts, with sandals. Not naturally brilliant, but is smart enough, and works hard. Valedictorian in a small, average school. 2300s in SAT, however, with few years of prepping. Aiming for Harvard.

2nd boy.
Socially awkward. Hunchbacked. Too tall and scrawny to the point where you can see his ankles poking out. Is always on his PSP when I see him at lunch. Asked me what was wrong with my face when I was walking into school. (I did not know if he was referring to my acne, my vitiligo, or my rashes; I was so dumbfounded anyways that I could not answer him) Don’t know about his smartness; doesn’t seem to be in any advanced courses… but who knows, maybe he’s secretly brilliant

3rd boy.
I saw him during SAT testing. Finished all sections at least five minutes before and sat complacently with his hands folded neatly over his papers, which irked me and made me nervous. White polo shirt and khaki pants, creased. Glasses. Bushy eyebrows. Long nose. Skinny. Not as nerdy as the other two, but nerdy, nevertheless. Said he liked my phone.

…hmm why are they all boys
Just felt like writing it.

and I wonder… why is it that almost always… smart=awkward?

Smart. I do a no-cut sport (cross-country) but I’ve been on varsity since freshman year so I don’t think that counts.

I don’t think I’m exactly “smart” but I do try hard. I’m not a nerd either, cause I’m actually really social…So I guess you could say I’m in-between?

I would identify as a nerd(or a geek?), and as smart, but for different reasons… I’m a nerd/geek because of my hobbies, I watch and read science fiction and fantasy shows/movies/books that no one at my school has ever heard of. I’m also quite fond of anime and manga, and even some good old American comic books on occasion. I used to play a lot of video games, although school is so busy for me now that I don’t really have time to. I played the stereotypical nerd game World of Warcraft for a while, and I also never really outgrew playing pokemon(or any old nintendo game for that matter) and still play these with friends or by myself at home when I have time. I don’t spend an obsessive amount of time doing all these nerdy things but I do really enjoy them when I do spend time doing them so I think that qualifies me as a nerd. I’m also a girl, which seems to make my hobbies more nerdy for me because there really aren’t many girls at my school who are into any of those things.

I don’t think being a nerd has to be a bad thing… Mostly to people who don’t know me I’m just the quiet girl. I’m shy but I’m not weird, I dress normally and talk normally and I’m nice to people and people are nice to me and talk to me and treat me like everyone else. It’s really only with my friends that my nerdiness comes out and some of them are also nerds, some of them aren’t, but we all get along and do stupid things together and have fun.

And on a completely different note I consider myself smart(enough) because I’m very good at and enjoy math and science, I get good grades in all of my classes and I’m genuinely interested in (most of) my classes… But I don’t think that I’m smart because I’m a nerd or that being smart makes me a nerd, I think they’re completely unrelated traits and I just happen to possess them both. ^^

Hell no! I’m smart, and people tell me i’m smart, but a nerd? hell to the no. Last time, i checked nerds didn’t play varsity sports, workout, or have friends.

I think i’m more of a scholar-athlete than a nerd…

At least we know where not to use commas.

You’re funny.

Smart, a natural nerd I guess. Only when it comes to standardized tests though. I never study for anything.
