the typical nerd

haha... nothing of importance.. and no offense to anyone...because i know most people on this site are very smart.. much smarter than myself.. but how many people on here are actually like the stereotyped nerd.. you know.. the glasses.. possibly braces... not really into like sports, partying... no need to get dressed up or impress anyone...

okay.. maybe be going a little to far with some of the assumptions... just wondering what all of you smart people are like..... if you're " " normal.. which is way overrated.... but yeah...just something i always wondered.. i know not all smart people or if even any or the "nerd" you see on tv.. but it seems like if you're that smart you're a bookworm who just enjoys reading and sitting at home studying and doing smart people thinks that i will never know..

the glasses: not yet, but I think I'm getting one pretty soon
braces: never
not really into sports: true
not really into partying: true
no need to get dressed up or impress anyone: Well, I still try to be fashionable, but not TOO obsessed with it.
bookworm who just enjoys reading: partially true, but I really don't read that often
sitting at home studying: almost never unless there's an exam

Yep, I guess I have somewhere around 50% nerdiness according to your definition of nerdiness... Although, I never really got into things like robotics club or computer programming, so I don't think the people in my school would think I'm a typical nerd... probably somewhere around "social outcast" or "teacher's pet" lol.

Oh, and I might be a drama nerd:) and I'm proud of it!

Haha, my knowledge bow team made "fighting nerds" tshirts with a caricature of the most sterotypical nerd on it that you can think of. Just reminded me of it.

It depends on your persepctive of what a nerd is. Since most people on CC are bright individuals themselves, they understand and respect each other on a subconscious level.

However, if a casual student happened to see who the CC kids are, he/she would more than likely think we're all nerds.

I'm a nerd. You're a nerd. We're all nerds. That's why we're on CC.

yeah.. I dont consider myself a nerd... but I did have glasses.. still need them but dont like to wear them.. I did have braces... but I do like sports... I used to party alot.. now i'm like anti-partying because it was getting ridiculous how much i went out.... I usually go to school with sweats and stuff.. but I do have random days where I feel like dressing up... I like to read a good book when i find one.. I just dont take the time to find a good one.. lol.... and I never sit at home and study... not saying im a natural genious.. but the girl who is ahead of me in class rank spends most of her time studying and doing homework and takes waaaay too much time on that... I just dont want to spend all my high school studying and sitting at home.... Im the last minute studier who wings alot of things and sloppily finished homework at the last minute and luck out with good grades

I guess if you're considered as an "overachiever", you'll be automatically considered as nerd by some people. In that case, pretty much everybody on CC are nerds:)

that just makes me wonder... how did everyone even find this site?.. i mean.. i was just searching the web one day looking for colleges i might like and i find this site.. and now i just like to sit and read how people that have nothing to worry about want to know there chances.. lol.. i think i come on here for pure entertainment anymore

the glasses: haha I've got 20/15 vision. I'm good.

braces: yeah for 2 and a half years. Got em off in April '05. I'm glad

not really into sports: true, but I'm in great shape.

not really into partying: somewhat true

no need to get dressed up or impress anyone: I don't ever try to impress people, but my friends and fam say I dress cool

bookworm who just enjoys reading: faux. I've got three more summer

reading books to read, and they have to be done by thursday, lol
sitting at home studying: I'd be a loser if I did. Who ENJOYS studying? I do take my work seriously when I need to.

I don't really think the whole glasses/braces thing is revelant in this discussion. Yes, I do believe actions (in this case, level of affinity for athletics, the academia, etc.) and physical appearance (in this case, how "fashionable" one wants to look or cares to look) are determined by ones personality (in this case, the nerdy personality). But wearing glasses/braces are coincidental. I mean, just because you think building electronic circuits is the more hip-happenin' thing to do on friday nights than partying doesn't necesarrily condemn you to wearing braces.

Yeah you're right... but i didnt mean that exactly.. i was just generalizing... i mean.. i used to have braces myself.. didnt mean to offend anyone with braces who is not a "nerd"... i was just throwing out ideas.. never said they were good ones...

glasses: Yes, but I like to think I look librarian sexy in them. Psh. :P

braces: XD Yes! They'll be well worth it.

not really into sports: Not true

not really into partying: Hmm I like to dip my toes in it

no need to get dressed up: Somedays I do, and somedays I dress very comfortably. Its all cute to me.

bookworm who just enjoys reading: I like to read, but rarely have I ever read for fun alone unless it was a TIME or SUPERNOVA book.

sitting at home studying: I guess, but when I'm done I do whatever I want.

Well, I'm in band. And Academic Decathlon. But I'm also in art club and track. So I get some cool points there, right? :D I got my own sweet ride, too!

i kinda consider myself smart. i don't know about nerd

the glasses: i used to have glasses in 7th grade, but got contacts

braces: nope

not really into sports: nope, i'm in 2 sports at school

not really into partying: true

no need to get dressed up or impress anyone: yep

bookworm who just enjoys reading: sometimes

that defiantely gets you some points.. for some reason i have an obsession with like.. bands that arent famous.. i just find it very cool that people write there own songs and play music and just do what they feel!.. lol.. i know its kinda weird but i just really like it!.. then theres me.. musically challenged.. couldnt play an instrument if my life depended on it.. maybe thats why i like it so much.. they are so good at somethign im not? lol..

Glasses: Ha ha, yeah it's true.

Braces: Parents can't afford em so I lucked out.

Not into sports: wrong, I'm the most hardcore football fan around.

Not really into partying: I suppose that's true

No need to get dressed up or impress anyone: Not true....I'm weak minded and always care about the way I look and how others view me

Bookworm who just enjoys reading: Not really, but I do enjoy playing on the computer...and not games, I mean overclocking and benchmarking, the ultimate nerd activity.

So I guess I'm half a nerd? Hell yeah! :)

glasses: no
braces: no
sports: not really, but I think it's important to stay fit
partying: mm.. not really into getting drunk, and definitely not into getting laid by random girls. I do, however, like to socialize.
bookworm: yes
sitting at home studying: yeah, I really like to. i bought a crap load of books (textbooks, novels) to read this summer, and read them =/

Glasses: haha yes

Braces: For about 2 years. Took them off last month =)

Not into sports: VERY VERY true, but I'm not overweight or anything...

Not into partying: lol i love parties

No Need To Get Dressed Up : Partially true. I try to look proper but not for everyone.

Bookworm who loves reading : I guess

So I guess I'm kind of nerdy.....

glasses: not yet. but getting them very soon.
braces: no
sports: love basketball.
partying: they are fun, but I am not fanatic about them.
dressing up: I do try to dress relatively well.
bookworm: I don't love reading, but yes I do study things other than school stuff on my own time.

glasses: contacts
braces: long gone
sports: hate em
parties: love em
dressing up: girl jeans
bookworm: NO

Glasses: Contacts or glasses (Glasses for when I'm at home/when I'm too lazy to put in contacts)
Braces: Got them off in grade 5
Not really into sports: Not true (well, I guess it depends on the sport). I'm pretty good at running (and sports that involve running). Pretty bad at any sport involving a bat or racquet.
Not really into parties: Depends on what you define "party" as. Big parties or getting drunk = no. Smaller parties with friends = yes.
Not dressing up for other people: For school I have to wear a uniform. Otherwise, I just wear clothes that I like and are comfortable.
Bookworm: I love reading books.
Sitting at home studying: Sometimes, and not always for school (darn music theory/history for piano and Chinese school!)

glasses: no
braces: no

not really into sports: I have a letter jacket/sweater what do you think lol

not really into partying: concerts are more of my thing sorry

no need to get dressed up: when i feel like it, when something matters

bookworm who just enjoys reading: i used to read alot, not anymore though just alittle now .

sitting at home studying: for a class yes, on a day w/ no class maybe if i need to catch up on something

no, band, my school doesn't have one ughh, but we want one, so am i a nerd just wondering lol, but i don't really go out due to my parents over protectiveness :(, but that's what college is for
