This is a nice school except for the fact that there are so many racists (the the administrative body itself is pretty racist, putting all Asian International Students together as roommates). People will look down on you not because they know who you are, but because of the way your eyes are shaped. I have had it enough, and I am transferring. A lot of my Asian friends are either newcomers to the country and have no idea that they are treated unequally, or have already transferred out. I wasted another semester at Wake thinking that I might try to turn the table around, convince other people that racism can never be justified, et cetera. This school is hopeless.

Just another perspective…

I’m Asian and while there are unaware people in the community, I have thrived at Wake Forest. My experience here has been incredibly worthwhile and I value it greatly.

Really???
I am chinese, and i really want to apply for this univeristy.
i feel a little upset after hearing this,

is it hard for asians to get accepted? , or will they accept you because it will add more diversity?

I have several asian friends at Wake, and although it’s certainly not a large percentage of the wake student body, I think they are accepted well here and many thrive like at any other university. just my opinion

I agree with Wneckid99. Wake may not be as accepting a school as, say, NYU, in terms of general diversity, but it is most certainly not a racist school overall. There are a handful of minorities in my sorority and in many other Greek and social organizations on campus, so clearly they’re accepted here. None of my friends of any race have had any trouble here.

You definitely hear about people having adjustment issues, but I truly believe that Wake is a fair university where all students can get along. :)

clearly wakiewakie is ignorant and doesn’t realize that all the asian INTERNATIONAL students are paired together because they figure that it will be easier and more comfortable for them since they are in a new environment with people from a different country. it has nothing to do with race, I’m sure asian-americans are blended with everybody else, its where the people are from. I’m sure they pair white European exchange students up as well.

I’m white, so I can’t speak for racism against Asians, but I would imagine it would be very uncomfortable coming here as a minority. Wake Forest is very homogeneous–almost everyone here is white. Minorities definitely stick out because there are so few.

I’m Asian and I applied ED. I know that the majority is white, but am sure that I’ll be fine. I’ve lived in NC for half my life and only hung out with white people so hopefully it won’t be a problem. Now I’m just waiting for my decision!! Does it come by email?

I’m asian and international, and I used to attend Wake and transferred as well, because of this problem. I chose Wake because I liked the curriculum and small community. However, I was so disappointed by this issue. Of course, there are several asian students who get along with students of different ethnicities, but vast majority of asians just separate themselves since they all realize it is extremely difficult to be accepted.
Aren’t there multicultural student associations? Yes, but the general board is dominated by african americans, so asians can’t really speak out.
Also, putting all asian international students into same dorm and assign them next to each other?? and some of you actually think that will help them to adopt the new environment well?? This thing didn’t happened when I was at Wake, but the school admin has just proved that they’re ignorant. This thing would lead them to be more and more isolated from the society, since they would feel other asian guys next door are much more familiar and friendly than others.
Nathan Hatch, the president is craving for higher US NEWS ranking, and he will do anything for that. As you may know, the main reason for dropping SAT/ACT requirement is to lower the acceptance rate, so they can be ranked higher. Also, Wake has attempted to accept more Asians, since the school realized many other top tier universities have significant amount of Asian population in their student body. However, Wake is not ready.

The issue is also two sided. I am a minority/international and I feel like I integrated well - I had friends regardless of their color. However, I did see a lot of internationals/minorities not integrating and not EVEN trying to integrate. While clubs such as ASIA and WISA were VERY helpful and a lot of fun, when I stopped attending meetings regularly, they began to seem like a fraternity/sorority (exclusive). People from the clubs only hung out with each other and made no attempt to branch out or invite in many people who were different than them. I think ASIA had ONE white member. That being said, a certain fraternity had ZERO black members.

When you come to Wake, you will find your niche. Just come with an open mind and ready to experience new things. Don’t be the guy who hangs out with the same 10 people all day all night.

if there are any dominant race/ religion, there will be discrimination and racism.
The only way to solve it is not mix diffferent proportion of students form different races toget
