Hi,
I applied to Harvard in mid-fall and patiently waited for word from them. I have never gotten an e-mail or any sort of conventional mail with a PIN or access #. I read that one can get that electronically, and followed their directions, but the reply has been: "access denied".

I was contacted by a Harvard alum, and had my interview in early January so I wasn't too worried--obviously my info has gotten to the admissions office.

I've been reluctant to call the adm office because I don't have an overwhelming feeling of friendliness on their part, and I'm not sure that even if I got accepted to Harvard that I'd want to really go there.

Maybe I'll call them tomorrow. Any thoughts?

yes, do call.
it's important for you to know that they have all your stuff, the email could have gotten lost and you wouldn't want them thinking you're lax for missing things you should have.

Pitseleh,
Thanks for responding. Does Harvard send the PIN and access code info by e-mail or conventional mail?
I'm applying to Yale as well, and I did receive their info by conventional mail at least 2 months ago.
I'll call tomorrow. Thanks again.

the same thing happened to me. The whole thing never got sorted out. Just ask your college counselor to call and ask if your materials are in. It shouldn't be a big deal.

subject line: PIN
type your firstname and lastname in the message body, nothing else.

you should get your PIN in the e-mail in 10 minutes. If your request is rejected, then try to alter your name in the message body to match their record.

Thanks ZZZZ,
I had done as you suggested, but I think I included my middle name in my past trials. Ahhhh, that must be the problem. Thank you for you kindness!

beefs,
Sure I'll post Harvard's decision and my decision, if that is your question. As you know, for regular decision that news won't come until April. I don't know the reason behind my ambivalence about Harvard. I think I'm a good candidate, just like so many folks out there. There is a friendliness aspect to Harvard that is lacking; guess I'm a sentimentalist. Or maybe, I'm just rationalizing the fact that I probably won't be accepted--but that's OK. I'll keep you posted!

Dude, I didn't get mine and called Harvard. The lady on the phone was incredibly nice, and after asking me a few questions to verify that it was me, she gave me the number. That short conversation certainly help give me a good impression of Harvard.

that's weird, jfitz...the guy i talked to told me that they couldn't give it out over the phone.

I was in the same boat as you, powderpuff. No email or letter, and the emails i sent to admpin@fas.harvard.edu were rejected no matter what combination of my name i used (it was really frustrating). Strangely, I did get my decision email from harvard on december 15, and it wasn't until I was admitted that I got my pin# through a mention of it on one of the emails they sent me after the decision.

I tried sending e-mails with various versions of my name. No luck. I'm gonna call today. Like I said, I had my interview, so at least I know that I'm plugged in, in some fashion. All the other schools I applied to have received my info without any problem. I suspect there is no problem with my Harvard application, but it is best not to asssume these things.

"There is a friendliness aspect to Harvard that is lacking; guess I'm a sentimentalist."

I'm not sure where you got this impression (maybe the daunting name, admissions process, and history), but I honestly don't think it's true. Did you visit and find it unfriendly?

Let me be the first to say that I was wrong! I called the Harvard admissions office and they were very nice, friendly, and efficient. I gave them the proper information, they reassured me that my application is complete and gave me my PIN # over the phone.
Maybe Admiral is right. Perhaps the daunting name and reputation got to me. What a pleasant experience.
