So due to a miscommunication between my dad and I, any things uploaded to IDOC were never uploaded. I understand that this is well passed the dead line, so I’m sort of freaking out. Cornell emailed me today asking for a few forms and wasn’t too strict on the deadlines, but I’m worrying about Harvard (and Yale and Columbia, who also didn’t receive any IDOC forms). I submitted everything else (FAFSA and CSS) except the IDOC documents.
So my questions are:
Will I not receive any financial aid now?
Will my financial aid package be less?
If I haven’t received an email from Harvard (or the other schools requiring IDOC) notifying me that I’m missing a part of my financial aid application, but I did receive an email from Cornell (a school I’ve been accepted to already), does this mean that basically I was rejected by these other schools already?
Thanks so much, I’m really freaking out right now.
I had the same problem - I realised a few weeks ago that I hadn’t submitted IDOC for Harvard and I did so immediately, however, I am also wondering whether this means that, if admitted, I won’t receive financial aid? My advice would be to just submit your documents ASAP
@sophoph I figured it out on Harvard’s website, basically the deadlines are just suggested only if you want the award package to arrive along with your acceptance. They’ll calculate your aid no matter when you submit the documents. The only problem might be that you would not have as much time thinking about where you want to go because you won’t have the aid packages yet, but I’m sure an acceptance at Harvard is enough for many students (including me)!
“For prospective students, we cannot verify receipt of any information until after a student is admitted. If you are missing financial aid materials at the time of admission, we will notify you immediately.”
Harvard, Yale and Princeton, with their large endowments, DO NOT penalize students for missing financial aid deadlines. If a student is accepted to HYP on March 31st, but missed the financial aid deadlines, they can apply for financial aid in April, May, June, July or even August and will receive the same amount of money as if they had met the deadlines.
That is NOT true for most colleges, which have strict deadlines for financial aid. At the vast majority of colleges, if a student misses a financial aid deadline, they lose their financial aid for that year. If a student misses the deadline for their freshman year, however, they may reapply for financial aid for their sophomore, junior and senior years provided they meet the deadlines for those years. Students should check with each individual financial aid office as rules vary by institution.
