wow 8 hours battery.

It's sweet, but if I were getting a 17-inch MBP, I'd just buy a 20-inch iMac instead. Large laptops make no sense to me.

Not user replaceable?

I guess there is a reason they made it last for 3x as many charge cycles...

I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro - it's a very sweet machine and I absolutely love it. This new one is even nicer. One minor issue with this is that it looks like the machine is sealed. There are no openings underneath to change the disk or memory and I'd definitely want to put 8 GB of RAM in the thing. A coworker priced one at at $5,600. I'm wondering if he will show up in the office with one of these things in the future. He also has a 17 inch MacBook Pro and a 17 inch PowerBook.

it costs $1,200 to upgrade the RAM to 8 GB <.<

and I still don't see why they don't include a number pad, there is so much extra room on the base...

i actually never like number pads on laptops...puts the keyboard in a weird position.

i like it. hopefully the bottom can be removed though.

DDR3 4GB DIMMs are expensive from Apple or otherwise. Buy less now and more when prices come down.

I like numeric keypads and Dell manages to fit them in their larger laptops but Apple's 17 inch MBP (the one I'm using right now) has big speakers that take up the space to the left and right of the keyboard. The sound is noticeably better than my other laptops.

its not worth it...well right now that is... they still need to lower the price of it... especially in this economy....i would say around june is the best time because that is when their next release is going to be and there will be a definite change in price...15in and 13 in is going to sell better than just the 17in...but if you had the money to get the top of the line for about 6k then go for it...

I would really like to wait for Nehalem before making any other purchases. It's only 6-9 months away and the performance improvement should be pretty big compared to Penryn.

whats Nehalem and penryn??

Nehalem is the next set of processors from intel, Penryn is the current set of processors from intel.
