me too :) haha It will be fun to meet you guys in person!! LOL
does anyone know how many interns they are hiring this summer?

greenvision,

3.94 gpa from a state school nontarget, jr finance major, additional course concentration in mathematics/statistics, past internship experience in corporate financial controls, was an operations manager for a computer services shop, involved in extracurriculars (i.e. investment club, finance society, etc)

i think gpa is important, but it certainly isn't the deciding factor. also being a finance major for ops isn't as necessary i feel as say, i-banking or GSAM. its more being able to work cooperatively and using quant skills to solve problems. several of the people i met whom also interviewed were engineers and math majors in addition to business/finance.

as far as the interview process goes, i think its really dependent on who you interview with and where they work in ops. i interviewed with 4 ops VPs from i-banking, GSAM, commodities/futures, and forex markets. be able to talk extensively about everything on your resume, prepared to answer any behavioral-type questions with good examples, explain your interest in GS and ops in particular, what your interests include within the markets and why, etc etc. i didn't get too many technical/quant questions, but i wouldn't be surprised if they throw some at you. i feel like i got a lot more questions of the like in some of the consulting interviews i did, like "tell me how many gas stations are there in the U.S., you have 2 minutes and talk me through the process" or "how many pennies will fit in this room?", stuff like that.

i'd say if you have at least a 3.2 gpa & good experience/involvement, you'd still have a shot at getting an interview.

thats pretty amazing. Your all in for it. gpa == hard work so i guess its reasonable. I believe these ibanking interns are paid for than anyone. twice a much as NASA.

I am a trader myself. I am so good, i quit my part time job at a store. I thought the returns on a couple of "clicks" was more than dealing with people. But it paid off to work with strangers.

Is Ops supposed to be good now or impressive or something? Apply for a real department even if its in a small firm.

Wow, such arrogance coming from lfecollegeguy. This board is for members to support and help each other, if you don't have anything positive to contribute, then please don't.

I'm just saying ur gonna be getting paid peanuts and then after 2 years you'll be unemployed with 0 work experience as no one considers Ops a real job. If that warning isn't helping then I don't know what is.

did anyone get the offer letter yet????

ifecollegeguy, please, do not post anything if you don't have anything positive to say. no one ask for your comment. everyone is trying to get a job/internship esp with the current economy... the least u can do is to be encouraging...

I ENCOURAGE you to do anything but Ops.

JK, ok fine congrats everyone... I heard there's not many spots open this year so good job.

What colleges you guys from?

i'd say landing any position at GS right now is pretty damn good. and maybe some of us actually want to work in ops and have no desire to be i-bankers. ops sure beats selling insurance or doing fund accounting, which the few finance classmates at my school that have offers will be doing this summer. this is also an internship, and having goldman on your resume no matter what someone decides to do after college is helpful.

so lfecollegeguy, do us a favor and take the need to flog the dolphin that is your ego somewhere else. if you must be condescending in order to feed your superiority complex, how about you go outside and burn ants with a magnifying glass or something.

It's like anything you do in life, there will ALWAYS be people like this jumping out saying nasty and negative things about it. But their words always end up saying more about what kind of persons they are.

Very sad and stupid thing to do indeed.

I have a question, when are we supposed to receive the offer letter in mail?

do all interns meet each other. I am in the securities division...so i was just wondering.

Hey guys,

Does anyone know some other means to check the application status besides the GS career website? I did the 3rd round phone interview last week but heard nothing from them after that. Is it good to ask the HR to check my status?

Thanks.

I had my first interview in Nov with GSAM, and the second one last monday. They told me the second one was final, and gonna contact me soon.
Still haven't heard anything.
It's been almost 4 months now, sigh......

nulynden, I always ask my HR contact for updates. I think they are pretty nice.

Thanks, xi1983_803.
No news is good news.
We have to wait :)

Hi everyone,

I am new to this thread, so first off, congratulations to everyone that has received offers. That is certainly an accomplishment in this market.

Just wondering if anyone has received an offer from the Investment Management Division? I went for the super day last Friday and met with several teams, but have not heard anything since. If anyone has heard anything, I would appreciate any insight.

Thanks

Um I think everyone makes fun of Ops, not just me. Tell me where Ops ends up in 2-3 years.

Brooklynkid, I dont know how Investment Management do their recruitment process, but I will give it another week just because for some reason, they are taking longer than usual to give offers to people. If you are really worried, call HR and ask them your application status :) BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!

xi1983_803, I waited for like... hmmm... 5 month to hear back from them so sit tight! no news is good new right? :)
