Starting with the September 12th test date, the new ACT essay will be put into use, and it seems to be pretty different than from the previous form. Any tips or advice on how to tackle it? This will be my first ACT
I’m interested as well.
I took the old ACT essays and I have gotten a 6 and 8 on them. (26 for the first ACT and 32 for the second ACT)
-How I got the 8:
- Make sure you have a strong intro and thesis that ties into the rest of your essay
- Always make a reference to the prompt
- Make a body paragraph for each of the arguments (choose at least 2)
- For each argument, put enough evidence and analysis to make a strong paragragh and always tie it back to your thesis
- The conclusion should make reference to your thesis and body paragraphs.
***I’m not taking the ACT again, but I hope this helped and good luck studying for the ACT!

This is off topic from the essay but do you have any tips on raising your composite score? Going from 26 to 32 is a huge jump! I’m stuck at 28 and was wondering if you did anything specifically that contributed to your 32.
For ACT Math, I registered for the SAT Math 2 subject test the week before i took the June 2015 ACT which raised my math subscore fron 23 to 34.
I used a Barrons book and Princeton Review to help me with the whole test. I was able to raise my English and Science score by 7 pts to 34 and 31, respectively. Sadly, my Reading score stayed at 30.
Hope this helps and good luck!
