New Application Q&A's

Hi! I actually have a question about the application. While I noticed that there was a thread for Q&A that was made last year, it has been relatively inactive since…well pretty much since last year’s applicants finished their applications. I noticed a few people have started asking questions there, but I thought it might be a nice idea to start a new one. I know some things might have been discussed in the old thread, but I know that personally I don’t want to go surfing through pages and pages of questions and responses to find one thing or another. Additionally, though I am using the Penn specific application I am sure there are people using the common app and the supplement, thus there are probably going to be questions about that as well.

My question right now is, can you send in Part 1 of the application on its own and then send Part 2 later? Seems like a silly question but I am applying early and I am done with part 1 but still working on my essays and such for part 2, and I don’t want to send in part 1 just to find out that the whole thing has been sent in!

Yeah, you can send them in separately. That's what I did. And thanks for making this thread =)

My question...is the picture not optional? It says optional in the application but when I sent it part 1 it said to send a picture in and didn't say that was optional.

I'll just be sending a picture anyway. I don't see any harm in doing so, its not exactly going to be a beauty pageant or anything.

the picture doesnt matter, but i always thought it was optional

If you're ugly you're not going to get in.

Penn is a university of beautiful alcoholics. Mmm.

Anyone see the contradiction in that statement?

Good point. They do let a couple of ugly people in?

PS to answer the question I sent a pic in, I got in, and I am not beautiful (but alcoholic?)

good to see this thread is being used productively :)

haha yeah...the purpose of this thread is for well...real questions about the application...and hopefully people will be nice and help each other and give real answers!

I have a real question.

Do you receive a card from Penn after your application is complete? or do you get one for each item that is received (test scores, transcript, recs...)?

i think u receive a card when they get each part of your application; i don't think they notify you about test scores and whatnot, but i'm not 100% sure.

my question: i'm thinking about writing something on the back of my picture (i'm applying online so i won't have to glue the picture to the form); nothing outrageous, just a note saying that i'd love to attend penn, or something along that line. will that make me seem unprofessional/trying too hard?

I think you should just send them a picture.

I guess I could revive this...

I don't know if this has happened to anyone, but I filled out most of Part 2 and viewed the application in PDF format. There wasn't a character cut-off for the EC's/awards, but on the PDF application (with all the answers filled in on the forms of the paper application), some of my responses didn't fit, so they just cut off at random letters. I'm not sure how to rephrase some of them to make them fit...so should I abbreviate or change it somehow to make sure it fits on the PDF preview? Or does it not matter? I hope that made sense.

Is there a benefit about the picture???

It's just in case they know u or what?

I want to ask my supervisor from an internship to do a recommendation. Should I just ask him to write a letter or does Penn have any special paperwork for him to fill out?

Thanks for the help

-The Special Coot66

Just a letter I think

-The Special JCoveney

I want to send an abstract of research I did. How do I go about doing this? And do we have to send in the picture?

Just tell them "I'm a virgin" they should get the point

I feel that response was needlessly mean and would like to renounce it
