Starting Fall of 2014, there will be 5 full-ride scholarships sponsored by the Stamps Charitable Foundation. Unlike the DHS and Paul Tulane Scholarships, which are full tuition, the Stamps are true full-ride scholarships, plus extra funding for other academic opportunities such as attending conferences. There are very few full ride scholarships at Tulane, so this is really great. The article states that this could grow to 20 scholarships per year over time.

So to summarize, for academic based full ride or full tuition scholarships there are now 75 DHS, 50 PTA, 5 Stamps, and 1 Hainkel (I think it is one, maybe it is two I am not sure and it is full ride). I think that covers it. This, of course, is in addition to the numerous partial scholarships that are awarded without separate applications (Presidential, Distinguished Scholars, Founders, Academic Achievement, and Leadership) as well as the Community Service Scholarships ($15K) which do require a separate application.

As the article says, these Stamps scholarships are not unique to Tulane. It looks like Tulane is the 34th school to benefit from the generosity of this amazing foundation, joining schools such as Cal Tech, Notre Dame, UVA, Georgia Tech, WUSTL and USC.

Hmmmm…It doesn’t say, but all the other scholarships are only given to incoming freshmen. I would think this is the same. Looking at 3 of the other schools that have had them for a few years, they are for incoming freshmen, so that is another indicator this is the case.

Sorry, newtrierdad! I have yet to find a school where the scholarships are not heavily weighted this way.

Fallen. My nephew will be applying to Tulane this year and I think that he has a great chance at PTA or DHS (kid is an amazing student, great SAT’s, great resume). I know that PTA requires essays and DHS has the infamous box project, but what about Stamps? What exactly do you think that they will be looking for and will there be a separate application? Also, you can apply to both DHS and PTA, correct?

On the Tulane Scholarship page it says this scholarship will be awarded to approximately 5 incoming freshmen each year. Applicants must apply to Dean’s Honor and either EA or SCEA. Finalists will be invited to interview by early spring. Tremendous opportunity. I wish there was a need based component for this as well…

My daughter is on a Stamps full ride plus scholarship at U of Miami. If it works the same way at Tulane, the admissions reps pick about 10 nominees for Stamps(they are awarded the full tuition scholarship at this time). The 10 nominees have Skype interviews with Mr. Stamps, and he selects the winners. The Stamps Foundation is amazing, and it provides many opportunities in addition to the scholarship. For example, this year all of his scholarship recipients (from like 30 schools) had a convention at the U of Michigan. He is an incredibly generous man that really wants to help kids that want to make a difference in this world.

Dumbo - that is great information, thanks very much! And congrats to your D.

Jozuko - yes, you can apply to both the DHS and the PTA.

Dolphnlvr - thanks for ferreting out that info. I didn’t think to look at the scholarship web page already. So that makes me wonder if there really will be 5 more scholarships or if 5 of the 75 DHS will become “super-DHS”, in essence. I guess we will see.

Jozuko - yes, students can apply to both DHS and PTA. The really great thing about Tulane is that there are multiple full-tuition scholarship opportunities available. Great stats definitely help, but I think it’s the essays and projects that set top-tier applicants apart.

Catria - Yes, that’s true. I usually remember to mention that, but obviously forgot this time. Thanks for catching that. According to the Tulane website there are indeed two of these scholarships. It is fairly similar to the Stamp in what it covers, although the yearly stipend is $1200 versus the $3000 for the Stamp.
