New Honors College Minor being offered

Are you are interested in educational issues, but you’re not an education major? If so, consider the Honors College Minor in Educational Studies.

On Tuesday March 2 at 4 PM in the Rotunda at Carmichael Hall, the Honors College and College of Education will host an informational meeting for Honors College students who would like to add this minor to their program of study. Reflecting The University of Alabama’s mission of advancing the intellectual and social condition of the people of the State through quality programs, the Minor in Educational Studies is designed for the Honors College students (1) to develop a knowledge base about education and schooling; (2) to design strategies to improve the conditions of education; and (3) to impact positively the education system. The program is a great opportunity for you to engage in critical thought and action about education in the 21st century in terms of fundamental knowledge of K-12 schooling, diversity, advocacy, service and involvement in schools, and accountability, policy, and broader economic, political, social, cultural, and philosophical contexts.

I think those who are pre-law might be interested in this.

I went to the seminar and it seems like a pretty interesting minor. It is not a degree that will lead to teacher certification, but will enable one to be more knowledgeable about educational issues. It consists of 3 education courses, two approved Honors College electives, and 1 capstone course.

^^^

Right…that’s why I though someone who is interested in law school (or politics) might be interested. It would seem like a good opportunity to participate in some activities/research to improve education. Might be nice to have on a resume for law school apps.

Thanks for posting this. Sounds like a great program.
