New Jersey Governor's School of Engineering and Technology 2014

My psat was 225. Worried I won’t make semi.

My school’s a little too chill about everything. They said I could even bring it in January 10.

My recs will probably not be too good. Are you guys just asking a math and a science teacher? I’m a little tempted to ask my history.

Do you guys already know a lot about engineering? I’m already very familiar with concepts in Computer Science, but I mainly wanted to attend this program to learn more about the specifics of different types of engineering (mainly chemical and biomedical) and explore the field as a career. I haven’t really had the chance to take classes or intern anywhere, and that is why I think this would be such a good program for me. I feel like I know less about it than everyone else applying though… do you think that puts me at a disadvantage? I’m definitely really passionate about mathematics and science, and I tried to emphasize that in my essays… I’m just kind of freaking out that I know less than everyone else. O_O

Chill dude(tte). No one here knows much about the process. That’s why many of us are here

Again, I am begging for someone to reach out and get someone who has been to the program to come to the thread.

I’m more of an aerospace/ chem person myself, but I am getting into robotics these days.

@PorcupineCup You will definitely make semi! And yes, I did ask my math and science teachers because those are both my best subjects anyway, but I’m sure if you think your history teacher will write a glowing recommendation then that should be totally fine.

Don’t worry about stuff like that. They have hundreds of applicants and as logn as you dont write anthing too crazy like “I can’t tolerate anyone who is not my race” or whatever, you’ll be fine.

Are you guys applying to other summer programs? I want to go to GSET but if I don’t get in, I want to be able to have a backup program.

The NJ GSET might be binding(?). I kinda just want to go to this one. I heard from a guy who went to NJGSST last year that it was binding. Not sure though.

I’m pretty sure the program is binding, as in the application you have to check off that you will definitely be able to attend the entire session. It’s somewhat implied. You can probably apply to other programs as long as they aren’t binding, sorta like backups.

So… how are your applications coming along?

Pretty much finished. Just need my letters of recommendation and get the principal to sign some stuff. You?

I’m like halfway done. I finished all of the short responses. I just need to do my 2 essays and my extracurricular activities. After that, I need the rec letters and the principal’s signature and I’m good. It’s gonna be a long wait.

Hey all, guess this is kind of unrelated-ish, but could anyone direct me to discussions about NJGSS? thanks!

Before posting in a random thread, look through the past threads.

Here it is:

My school is sending out my application tomorrow! I gotta say, the anxiety is really setting in. Now we just have to wait three months to hear the verdict… Crossing my fingers!

All I’ve got left are the rec letter and principles signature. I’m just happy I got the essays down. The finishing touches on those took forever.

Do you guys think going to this program will help me get into Princeton? It seems like a bunch of njgss kids end up going there, but I haven’t heard the same about engineering.

I don’t see why attending the sciences governor’s school would be more helpful for getting into Princeton than attending the engineering one. The programs have similar aspects and both are incredibly prestigious. Maybe more people in the sciences program apply to Princeton? Anyway, I’m sure getting into the Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology will not hurt your chances of getting into Princeton at all.

I’m submitting everything tomorrow. Where you guys at right now? I’m kind of editing everything and trying to ready myself for a three month wait.

I’m in the same position as you, Porcupine. I gave all of my essays and application stuff to my teachers for them to check and right now, I’m just editing it and handing it in tomorrow. 3 month wait is going to be torture.

Mine was just sent by the school today. Good luck to everyone!
