My school just released their decision for the nominations today. To my surprise, I got engineering: I’m a good student but my grades are the highest. Hopefully my extracurricular’s get me a decent chance in the next selection process.

EDIT

just out of curiosity, how did you guys do on PSAT’s?

Yeah my school didn’t make their decision until yesterday. Luckily they had us all do our essays beforehand, so I only needed to get recommendations.

Nice that’s probably qualifying for the national merit scholarship.

PSAT’s probably don’t matter much. They’re just a piece of the full picture IMO. I’m hoping my current GPA and extracurriculars will help me get in. My essays were alright, but I only had a few days to write them.

Everything’s set and the school is mailing everything tomorrow. I went back and revised my essays a little and found a typo, but everything should be good now.

BTW, I was reading back in the thread and i noticed you wanted an alumni to join the thread. I’m pretty close friends with someone who went last year (engineering), so I could ask him any questions you have. I have to go to sleep now though: I have a ton to do tomorrow.

The deadline is tomorrow, so anything that we ask him will not affect our application. Thanks for telling though. We will need him once we approach decision time. Good luck

225 also… We in here fam
Still haven’t sent them in. One of my teachers was out all of yesterday. My essays were just passable but recs were stellar. Also put my SAT scores in just in case.

I never got to read my recommendations. My school guidance counselor probably reads them, but I never even touch them. I know they will be very positive, but I’m not sure how unique or well written they are.

Yeah, I unfortunately didn’t get to see my recs either. I assume they were good though, because I chose teachers from my best subjects.

Ahhhh, I really hope I get in. Are you guys applying to other programs though in case you don’t get accepted? I’m trying to find a good one I can apply to that won’t be binding.

I got to read my recommendations, one from my Physics/Freshman Engineering and Current Engineering teacher and the other from the mentor of my robotics team. The first was absolutely wonderful, and I couldn’t have asked for more. My other letter was also amazing except for one small typo in the letter. I don’t think it’s really too much of a problem however, and I doubt I’ll be held accountable for a grammar mistake in something that wasn’t written by me.

I’m go to a high-ranked public high school, so I don’t know my chances against people of magnet schools. My essays are stellar though. I really put my feelings and passion in them. I’m applying to a lot more summer programs as back-ups, but this is my 1 choice.

I hope so. I’ve got a 3.7UW/3.95W GPA which I assume will be one of the lowest of all applicants. And sadly my school doesn’t rank, which means they won’t be able to know I’m in the top 5% of my class. It really sucks.
