New (kind of) Ipod Nanos: Opinions?

hey guys,
I'm in the market to buy a new ipod and I can't really decide whether i should just buy one of the newer ipod nanos with the tiny touch screen or stick with the older 5th gen click wheel model. Both look really neat, just not sure. anybody have any bad stories about the newer ipod nano? or the older 5th gen for that matter? Thanks, BC.

Sansa Clip+/Fuze

if it’s an iPod and it’s not a touch/phone/1G shuffle, the general rule is: don’t do it. you’re walking into a bar and voluntarily being robbed. you would only do it if you had a mentally debilitating disorder (sorry if you do and “buy” the nano)

As much as I like the Sansa Fuze, you should probably justify your iPod rant with, you know…facts.

I don’t know about the mental disorder part, but buying iPod nano seemed to be the best choice for me. I like the flash storage and the size. The features on the 5g were pretty nice too. Eventually i just bought it because it was a nice music player though i can attest to the Sansa players being really nice. I had one before I went all apple (BOO!) and it really was a great mp3 player. It was no frills (earlier ones, not sure about the newer models), but it worked and was very reliable.

I have the previous click wheel version of the Nano, and like it very much. It is so compact and holds a lot of music. The latest version looks great, but I like that I can navigate by touch without having to look at what I am doing.

I am not familiar with the ‘general rule’ that if ‘its not a touch/phone/1G shuffle, don’t do it’. I’m also not clear on how buying a 2G shuffle or a nano or a classic ipod constitutes being robbed or is evidence of a mental defect. If that is the case, we need to hire a whole lot more police officers and social workers because there are now an awful lot of folks out there who have been robbed or have a mental disorder.

Yeah i was also unclear on the 1G shuffle rule. I really liked the 2nd Gen. It was perfect for a quick workout and the 2gb max on the more expensive models gave you a lot more room to put in songs so you could have quite a diverse list of music to shuffle. The 1st gen, though cool with the usb stick design, was only a prototype of what they would eventually become. That can be said of all previous ipod generations, but the 1st gen shuffle especially seemed to be lacking in the design department and really looked more like a trim 1st gen ipod nano sans the screen. I can honestly say that it does look pretty neat, like most of apples products, but I don’t understand where you would pick that shuffle out particularly. I thought the 2nd gen was much nicer, a bit easy to lose, but still nice.

I have the 5th Gen iPod Nano and find it great for workouts. The video camera and ability to play videos is also useful from time to time as well.

I didn’t like the small size of the touch version and the loss of some features.
