palmalk, you can just go to the bottom of the left side of this page, and you will find a drop down box that says CC. Click on it and you can choose CC (the old, dark blue style) or Fresh (the new aqua style).
Lenitus, thanks for your attention to my comments. I think the notice should go somewhere (in BIG LETTERS) where you can’t avoid seeing it when you first visit the site or log in.
I can’t believe that I don’t like the new colors better, because turquoise/aqua is my favorite color! But the black type is just so much more readable, and the dark blue is a nice, soothing, non-distracting presence in the background.
Also - regarding being old - I really feel young. My H and I are going on a 2 week backpacking trip in the Sierras soon, and will be carrying a pack over mountain passes. But I really do feel old in comparison to my college-age kids. I just had a bit of a verbal tussle with my D yesterday over the meaning of a phrase that was quite different when I was in college. And my “old” sister had another different understanding of the phrase. So something that I was worried about turned out to be nothing at all, but getting us all on the same page was a struggle. It is tough to be several generations removed from your own kids.
@flyingllama: You can actually switch back to the old color scheme even if you are not logged in. Select “CC” in the drop-down menu located on the left side of the page footer.
I was a little confused when the new look popped up, but I like it just fine. Then again, I wasn’t up in arms about the new Facebook either.
I might make a suggestion to some users: don’t sit so close to your screen. I noticed the older, darker CC had me leaning closer; this new one does hurt my eyes if I sit less than 18-24 inches from the screen. Besides, keeping that distance is good for you! (And yes, I know this may not apply to all CC eyes. ;))
My first reaction was, “Fresh!”
Then after reading for a bit, my reaction was, “Bright!”
But even after I learned I could change it back, I decided against it, since the site was redesigned for a reason.
I am very used to the new layout now, and I’ve been reading this site since the “old” forums (/discus). I think people should just give it a chance.
