New member!!! Chance me please?????

So, can you guys please be honest? I've been creeping CC for a couple years now, and everyone always seems overly brutal. With that being said, here are my stats:

Gender: M
Race: White (well, technically Middle-Eastern)
Income: ~85,000
State: Missouri
College Class Year: 2016
High School: Public
High School Type: sends a couple grads to Ivies (semi-competitive)
Will apply for financial aid: Yes
Major: something pre-med oriented

Academics:
GPA - Unweighted: 4.00
GPA - Weighted: 4.42 (4.62 by graduation)
Class Rank- Valedictorian
Class Size- 238
I also have about 12 credit hours from state schools (University of Central Missouri and University of Missouri-Kansas City) for college Spanish and math classes. I should have about 20-25 by the time I graduate. I know that this won't transfer to most of the schools that I'm applying to, but I think that it should show some initiative on my part to go above and beyond my school's curriculum. (I can always hope, right??)

Scores:
ACT: 32 (English- 35, Math-34, Reading-31, Science-27, Writing 11) Should I retake this to increase science?
PSAT- 197 (I was unfortunately sick during this test, really awful experience)
SAT- Planning on taking in the fall
SAT II Math Level 2 (IIC)- Will take in the fall
SAT II Chem- Will take in the fall
SAT II US History- 740

APs: I don't come from an "AP school." My school offers 4 APs, and restricts us from taking them until junior year. Moreover, it was logistically impossible for me to take more than 1 my junior year: US history (waiting on score, hopefully a 5). I'm doing a lot of independent studies to make up for that my senior year (school also restricts us to doing this only senior year, as well).

Senior Course load:
Honors Independent Study AP Psychology
Honors Independent Study AP Calculus AB
Honors Independent Study AP US Gov and Politics
Honors AP Literature
Honors AP Senior Composition/Techniques of Writing (AP English)
Honors Anatomy and Physiology
Honors Chemistry II
Honors Spanish IV
Honors Debate

Essay: I have, what should be, a very unique idea for an essay for the commonapp. I'm an excellent writer, and I intend to write every optional supplement essay.

Extracurricular/Community Service/Work Experience:
-National Honor Society- President
-Student Council- Senior class president, junior class president, sophomore class vice-president, and freshman class representative.
-Debate- I do Public Forum Debate (PUF), Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, and Radio. There are too many awards at tournaments to list. However, the major ones are:
Sophomore.....2nd at Conference in PUF, 1st at Districts in PUF, State qualifier (first to do this from my school as sophomores in debate)
Junior.....1st at Conference in PUF, 2nd at conference in Extemp, 1st at Districts in PUF, state qualifier in PUF
Varsity debater every year, voted Novice Debate student of the year (among many other awards :) )
-National Forensics League- Distinction Member
-Future Business Leaders of America- President Junior and senior years.
Freshman year....3rd in Word processing and Intro to Business (districts)
Sophomore year....1st in Public Speaking I and Intro to business, 4th in Word Processing 1, 6th in Public Speaking and 4th in intro to business at State.
Junior year....1st in Public Speaking II, Economics, and Business ethics (districts), 2nd in Business ethics and 6th in Public Speaking (state), and Top 15 at Nationals in Business Ethics.
-Spanish Club: Vice-President Junior year, set to be president senior year.
-Student 2 Student- Ambassador every year. I introduce new students to the school and help them get settled.
-J.V. Tennis- Freshman and junior year.
-J.V. Track and Field- pole vault sophomore year. (I guess I was experimenting....what a mistake!)
-"Building a Winning Community"- This was by far one of the most unique experiences I've ever had. I might write an essay about it. I was selected by my principal to serve on the steering committee for an initiative by the NCAA Division II. This program was a revitalization project for my hometown that was to serve as a Pilot program for over 19,000 other towns. The steering committee consisted of leaders in the community, such as the President of the hospital, the President of the local university, the City Manager, etc. After this program finished its primary goal (to establish a vision and action plan for the city), I traveled to Indiana to give a presentation on its accomplishments to the Indiana State High School Athletics Association, and I received recognition from the National Federation of State High Schools.
-Academic Quiz Bowl- Freshman and Junior year.
-Students Against Destructive Decisions- Freshman year (somewhat insignificant)
-Science Olympiad- Freshman year. Placed at regionals, advanced to state.
-Western Missouri Medical Center Auxiliary- raises money for the hospital in my town.
-Job Shadowing- I shadowed a pediatrician and a doctor at the MO Veteran's Home for 100+ hours. I'm currently shadowing more doctors (and surgeons). I should have around 200 hours when all is said and done.
-Local play performance- "18 More Reasons Not to be in a Play." It was kind of cool. I also did another performance for elementary school kids.
-Missouri Youth Election- I facilitated the 2010 elections.
-TEAMS Science and Engineering Competition- 16th in state.
-Boys State- Senator, Majority Party Caucus Chair in Senate, Country Party Delegate, State Party Delegate, Senate Committee Vice-Chairman
-The Greenleaf Center Servant Leadership Workshop.
-Volunteering- 200+ hours at the local hospital, Veteran's home, blood drive, tutoring, etc. (I'm being VERY brief).
-Commencement Host at graduation

Awards: (not too extensive)
-President's Volunteer Service Award Gold Group level and Bronze Individual Level
-Varsity Award in Academics every year
-Personal Finance Challenge- 4th and 7th place at districts
-Academic Excellence Medal every year
-February 2011 Student of the Month
-Optimist Club Student of the Month
-1st at County, District, and Zone in American Legion Oratorical Competition. 4th at State. Received $1,800 Scholarship
-Principal's Honor Roll every year.

Interested in: (no particular order)
-Harvard- early action (I might as well try lol)
-Brown- PLME and regular admissions
-Cornell
-Dartmouth
-Johns Hopkins
-Northwestern- HPME and regular admissions
-Rice
-UC Berkeley
-UCLA
-UChicago
-UMichigan
-University of Missouri-Columbia
-University of Missouri Kansas City- 6 year MD program
-UPenn
-USC
-Washu- Med scholars and regular admissions

Thanks for your input! And thanks for reading all of this!!!

oh, I forgot (as if this post wasn’t long enough)…

Recommendations:
-One from AP History teacher (he is copying and pasting my name into a rec that got two kids accepted into Harvard, making me a happy camper!)
-One from Chemistry I/II and Biology teacher. This should be very strong.
-Counselor recommendation should be great, as well. I have gotten to know her very well over the years.

I would say that the only thing kind of missing is a higher ACT for the ivies, ur EC’s are really good, especially the leadership. If ur essay is as good as u say, with a 34+ ACT u will be competitive anywhere u apply. However, Ivies are almost random in admission so don’t count those as “likely”
good luck!

Thanks for chancing me
Wow, you have some really impressive ECs, and your GPA and rank are great, too. Don’t worry about not being able to take a lot of APs- it only matters that you take the most rigorous classes possible. If you get your ACT to 33+ or your SAT to 2100+, I really think you have a shot at most of your schools. The Ivies are a little random, but if you actually love Harvard (and not just the name) then definitely go for ED.

Thanks man! I’ll work on the ACT. In the practice tests I took (in the red book) the week prior to the test, I had gotten 33’s on Science every time! You can only imagine my frustration after seeing the score. But, I intend to raise it…eventually. And, yes I LOVE Harvard. I’m one of those kids that has been dreaming of it since 7th grade…pathetic, I know.

bummmmmmp…

The only weaker part of your App is your test scores, but they are by no means out of range for the ivies. If you can get your ACT to a 33 or 34 you stand a good chance at any school. However, that US history rec thing doesnt seem good…First off, their recs werent the only thing that got them to Harvard, if anything, one of the lesser important things; your recs are supposed to be specific to you and make you stand out as an individual. Just talking about how smart and kind you are is extremely generic. He should have real examples of your iniatiatives and actions. And if he talks about the other ppl specifically and copies your name I think that’s illegal, you have to promise on your app that everything is truthful. Any app that you could just copy and paste a name in and have it still work is a BAD APP and your teacher is horribly uninformed. In fact that is like the definition of a bad app, the whole point is to point you out as a good INDIVIDUAL person.
Sorry for my rant lol

haha, I see what you’re saying. I think that he may have been joking…maybe just write me one that is similar. And, of course it will reflect the things that I’ve done. Honestly, I think that he was speaking strictly academically when he said that. Sorry for any confusion.

Ok good haha. you made it sound literal haha sometimes its hard to tell through a computer screen.

Looks like a strong application. I would suggest re-taking ACT/SAT until your score is 35/2300+ if you really want to get into Harvard. My friend, who got into Harvard, took the SAT 6 times until he was satisfied.

Then again, your ECs and everything are so strong that ACT/SAT score might not be such a big factor.

instead of taking the SAT, focus on taking the ACT again and improving your score. other than that your stats are very impressive. if you write good essays I’m sure you will get into some top schools, I’d even say an Ivy.

oh and I forgot. chance me back please?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1173704-cornell-ed.html</a></p>

hm you are definitely a strong contender! your gpa is stellar & you’ve taken the hardest classes available at your school. A 32 is good but for Ivies I’d say at least a 33. I would say that you should aim for a 2200 on the SAT

I would say in at UM and all the Missouris. All the Ivies are obviously reaches, same with UC, I would say match for Rice, Berkeley, and USC.

-Harvard- early action - crapshoot - a very high ACT might or might not help
-Brown- PLME and regular admissions - crapshoot
-Cornell - in
-Dartmouth - 50/50
-Johns Hopkins - in
-Northwestern- HPME and regular admissions - not sure about HPME, but you should get in RD
-Rice - in
-UC Berkeley - in
-UCLA - in
-UChicago - in
-UMichigan - in
-University of Missouri-Columbia - in
-University of Missouri Kansas City- 6 year MD program - in
-UPenn - crapshoot
-USC - in
-Washu- Med scholars and regular admissions - don’t know med scholars, but in for RD if you show interest

Your application is very strong, especially EC wise! Test scores are ok, could be a little bit better, but you have a very good shot at several of these schools! Good luck!

-Harvard- early action - good luck, you have as good a shot as anyone though
-Brown- PLME and regular admissions - see above
-Cornell - highish match
-Dartmouth - low/mid reach
-Johns Hopkins - match
-Northwestern- HPME and regular admissions - I’m not sure on HPME, but match
-Rice - match
-UC Berkeley - match
-UCLA - match
-UChicago - match
-UMichigan - match
-University of Missouri-Columbia - safety
-University of Missouri Kansas City- 6 year MD program - don’t know enough about this school
-UPenn - reach
-USC - match
-Washu- Med scholars and regular admissions - Not sure on med scholars, but you should get in

All med prgrams are very difficult to get in to. Brown and NW are two of the most selective. They admit a small number of students each year so try and get higher scores i guess.

I disagree with the people saying that the UCs are reaches. Your ACT is in a great spot for the UCs and your GPA is great. They will definitely take into account that you took as rigorous a schedule as was offered at your school. Your ECs are incredibly extensive. As long as you can really relay a passion for something in your essays and present yourself as a humble and community/family-oriented person. You have an amazing chance at the UCs. They have a much higher acceptance rate than the Ivies. That being said, you could probably get into Cornell as it seems to be only marginally easier to get into. You probably have a decent chance at Dartmouth, Penn, and UChicago.

Thanks for chancing me earlier :)

your numbers are in the middle range for these Ivy league schools (take a look at the stats). very nice EC’s, and i like how you are donig well in business competition and speech adn debate (those really helps). i would say Berkeley would probably be safe for you, Ivy league would probably be a reach

LOLLL!!

you seriously dont need a chance me thread

im 95% sure ull get in all thsoe places, except for ahrvard, cause im sure u know

with harvard, u just never know ;)

But seriously, excellent grades and it really looks like youve worked hard and expanded your knowledge
I think colleges will see that you DEF challenged your self and that ur a dynamic individual

keep it up! and chacne me! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/1174744-chance-me-please.html</a></p>
