I'm thinking about putting New/North as my number 1 and 2 choices for where to live, but I'm still unsure. I definitely like the social setting of it, but I do NOT want to rush. Is Greek life such a big thing there that I would be left out if I don't join a fraternity? Or would I still be a suitable match?

There are plenty of threads that address the Greek/Non Greek dilemma many students face. NN has a high concentration of Greek students (because of the party dorm reputation, I think) but – YOU DO NOT NEED TO RUSH TO HAVE A SOCIAL LIFESTYLE AT USC!

There are benefits and drawbacks to rushing and not rushing – but I think a lot of students worry too much that they’ll be branded a “social outcast” by not being in the Greek system. 100% not true. I didn’t rush, and I was a much harder partier than the girls I knew in sororities and definitely had many more social experiences.

On the flip side, my boyfriend WAS in a fraternity and became really jaded with the whole “scene” by the time we were juniors. He deactivated first semester of senior year and I think was a lot happier. Depending on what kind of person you are, you may or may not grow out of the whole beer/frat/keg/girls/party mentality halfway through your college career.

Plenty non-Greeks live in NN. If you’re a “partier” then you’ll probably enjoy it regardless.
