Hi!
I’m a rising Junior who has just finished a 6-week SAT prep course.
My “final” SAT score during the prep class was a 1770, but I can definitely feel an improvement in my score. (I started with a 1540 and I started significantly improving during the last couple weeks)
My year is the switching year of the SAT, and I’ve already put in a lot of studying into the old test, and I plan to take the test in October/November, and January. (PS does anyone know if October has a higher ‘curve’? If not, which month is the best between October and January to get a curve?)
The thing is, my essay is the real bad part of my test results. I’ve looked through lots of examples and the “Get a 12 in 10 days” thing and a systematic way to look at it, but my highest result has been an 8 so far in my prep class. (Also now that my prep class is over, I can’t grade it professionally. Any tips?)
The new SAT doesn’t have an essay which would help, but I heard its tougher, especially considering there is no accurate test prep since no one has taken it.
I would suggest taking the old test at least once, as you’ve spent time and probably money preparing for it. If you’re not happy with your score after the October test (which is what I would recommend taking) you can give it another shot in January and try the new test out (the essay won’t be part of your full score in the new test, so this could be a solid option.
What do you suggest is a score I should be content with, considering my top school is Cornell? Say, 2200, should i retake it? I’m aiming for just about that, but since my GPA and extra curriculars may be weaker than some, I feel like I should be aiming for 2400.
@ac6803 Uh. Don’t ever say “I want a 2400 to make up for x and y”. There’s nothing you can do to make up for 4 years of high school work and productivity. Have you taken the SAT yet? What is your high school graduating class?
I am not sure how things will work out, but as of now, it appears to me that I will be taking both current and new Sat 2 times. I will take it this October and January. Unless, I do amazing on these, I will take the new Sat at least once. If I think I can improve my score considerably and even better than the current Sat scores, I will take the Sat a 4th time and the new Sat a 2nd time in the fall of my senior year.
