New SAT I: Too long?

I took a Princeton Review practice test at a local university, and they seem really long. By the end of it, I wasn't even paying much attention to what I was answering. Does anyone else think that it should be split up like the SAT II? It would be really good if they could offer SAT I: Math, SAT I: Critical Reading, and SAT I: Writing. Then, real potential could actually be measured (or at least to the extent of the questions).

New SAT
essay+9sections
3hours and 45minutes long

I'd rather take it all at once. If you can't concentrate for 4 hours on what is basically one of the most important tests you'll ever take, then maybe theres a problem. It shouldn't be that much more difficult than it used to be...its only about an hour longer.

Too ****ing long. Almost killed myself.

I never took the whole test in one sitting when I did practice tests.. so I was unprepared for the whole length. So I sort of got tired around section 7 and then woke myself up after that section.

Now that I look back at what I put for the questions in section 7... they're pretty illogical. I have a feeling I'll be taking this monster again.

it is very long. That's why i'm glad that i'm in the class of 2005

I found it very tiring but doable, with the exception of the essay. 25 minutes is just not enough time to write 5 good paragraphs.

I felt like the amount of time given for the test is enough.

Long and draining. The biggest complaint I had was two math sections in a row. I don't mind math, but with the pressure of the SAT, I was weary by that time. Too much thinking. I thought the SAT tested reasoning, not endurance.

Yeah, the new SAT is aptly named the Reasoning Test.

I'm not saying that it is hard to concentrate, I'm just saying that potential would be measured more accurately if it was split into separate sections. I've been getting 2200s on practice tests, and I don't think I would necessarily do better with more time. I just think the test wouldn't be as bad if you weren't constantly worrying about time limits (especially on the essay).

I think it's too long. Sure I can concentrate for 4 (or more) hours on an activity I like, am interested in, or really care about. But the SAT isn't any of these - it's 4 hours of sheer boredom. Worse, you take the test in a huge hall with typically terrible proctors, making the entire time you are at the testing center close to 6 hours (this was my experience.) I just don't see the need for so many sections. Why not 1 math section, 1 verbal, and 1 writing (with the essay included.)?

My neck hurts just thinking of the 4 hours it needs to stay bent to look at a gray sheet of paper.

It's way too long. I bet the college board will reduce the number of sections in the near future.

I couldn't lift my neck after I finished the test..........

25 minutes for a good essay is not enough, IMO

at the end i started not caring and didn't bother reading all the answer choices - just picked the one to get through the fastest

so... way too long.
